Honestly I am happy we have an explanation for why his acting was so terrible in recent movies, it felt like he didn’t care but instead was just struggling.

That LA Times article was brutal to read. It does make it sound like his entourage/handlers were schlepping him from project to project when he was in bad shape (including not knowing where he was) so that they could financially benefit. It's unclear why his family didn't step in sooner.

+1, the family announced his condition and retirement in anticipation of the article. So it put a stop to the operation, there probably won’t be much more said, but there’s no way they were acting in his best interest through this.

I think it's more likely the patient does not measure the impact of his disability, and that the family has stepped in to persuade him not to engage so much. Part of that is to go public. No knowledge of this particular case, but this is usually what happens.

This. Happened in our family. Person goes into denial and wants the normalcy of work.

And when that happens, it's really hard to tell the person they CAN'T work any more. Because when is the line where they can vs can't make their own decisions. Especially if they aren't harming anyone. And aren't even "that old" yet.

If I were his current wife, though, I wouldn't let him go live with his former wife. I'd want the time left with him. But she's got little kids to handle on her own now. So, no judgement.

All the more reason for older men in Hollywood and elsewhere to quit starting second families in their late 50s, 60s, 70s. We're all mortal. Deal with it and quit making poor decisions just to feel like you're a young man.

If it's more serious than they are letting on, he may not even remember who his current wife is and only remembers Demi at this point. It happened to my dad; he could only remember things that happened 20 years before.

+1 When I was a kid multiple older members of my Dad’s family had senile dementia. They always recognized my mom because she looked basically the same as when they met her, but they didn’t understand who my dad was or who we were.

Yes, I'm the pp and youngest child; eventually my dad had absolutely no idea who I was exactly but did remember we were related in some way. Bruce will most likely remember things from age 50 and younger, which may exclude his current wife and and kids. He may even think he is still married to Demi. Just something to think about before judging. If you haven't experienced this it may be hard to imagine, but I have lived through it.

His entire entourage was earning as much as possible before they were shut down. His earpiece guy was making $200K a movie, sometimes four hours of work, never more than a day on set.

Instead of assuming malicious intent, perhaps imagine that Bruce knew his working days were numbered and HE wanted to do whatever he could to sock away cash for his big family (5 kids plus a wife who isn't likely to work) AND take care of his loyal staff.

I think that was the case.

His reputation was that of a party guy, but also an all around good guy.

Heck, he probably also realizes HE will incur a lot of expenses for longterm care at some point--and that will eat into whatever he can leave behind for his family.

It's sad, but I believe he is making good decisions based on his interest in providing for his family. I don't think anyone is taking advantage of him...not with Demi involved.

There is a difference between putting him up on boring roles as a family doctor living in the suburbs and cheating on his wife and an action role where his stunts have the potential to harm and affect others. See what just happened with Alec Baldwin and killing that cinematographer. Now think back on this incident two years ago -

In one alleged incident two years ago on a Cincinnati set of the movie “Hard Kill,” Willis unexpectedly fired a gun loaded with a blank on the wrong cue, according to two people familiar with the incident who were not authorized to comment. Some people are afflicted with early onset dementia...which is precisely what it sounds like: EARLY. Late 60s is when many people start to see an uptick in myriad ailments. Maybe your gene pool hasn't been burdened with such things, but I can assure you that awful medical diagnoses can strike at anytime.

Heck, he probably also realizes HE will incur a lot of expenses for longterm care at some point--and that will eat into whatever he can leave behind for his family.

It's sad, but I believe he is making good decisions based on his interest in providing for his family. I don't think anyone is taking advantage of him...not with Demi involved.

Also, people want to work. People who like/love/don't hate their job want to work, don't want to retire, that's true of younger people and especially people near retirement age or past it.

As written by his own family, it comes with cognitive impairment. It's hard to tease out what's due to what, but the end result is that he's generally impaired, and also speech-impaired. It's sad, but then a lot of elderly folks have something, and he's had a wonderfully successful life, so... I don't think we should feel too bad for him. Honestly I am happy we have an explanation for why his acting was so terrible in recent movies, it felt like he didn’t care but instead was just struggling.

So that begs the question why he did all of those movies last year.
Not clear if he was contracted to do the movies before his symptoms / diagnosis, or if symptoms began and he couldn’t get out of the projects, or if he was symptomatic and still wanted to continue filming for some reason.
Seems unkind to release details about his poor acting now knowing this diagnosis.

His entire entourage was earning as much as possible before they were shut down. His earpiece guy was making $200K a movie, sometimes four hours of work, never more than a day on set.

Instead of assuming malicious intent, perhaps imagine that Bruce knew his working days were numbered and HE wanted to do whatever he could to sock away cash for his big family (5 kids plus a wife who isn't likely to work) AND take care of his loyal staff.

Bruce Willis is the epitome of a "man's man."

I'm sure he was determined to keep working as long as possible so he could remain active AND sock away money to provide for his family.

Zero chance his family was pimping him out for cash. I'm sure he has been in control and voiced his wishes. I'm sure he updated his will/trusts before he went too far downhill. The fact that his ex-wife and older kids are coordinating messaging with his wife demonstrates they are working together for his best interests.

My husband is the same age as Bruce and this morning, I caught him watching a Law and Order episode that we watched together a couple months ago. He says he doesn’t remember watching it before and I’m starting to get concerned esp. with all the news about cognitive impairment.
