You know..... you make a huge mistake lumping anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers into one basket and assuming that people who are opposed to mandates are anything more than anti-mandate. I am an example of this.....fully vaxxed, wore a mask early on (after Fauci, et al changed course and said that yes, to wear a mask), followed all the "mandates" and took precautions as necessary. As time went on, and as more information came in, we are finding that despite doing literally EVERYTHING we were told to do, people who did everything "right" STILL got Covid. The vaccine was a game changer. It, for the most part, prevents severe cases. So, if you are triple vaxxed, why continue to don the mask? Is it really about preventing spread? If you are wearing a mask, are you doing it to prevent spread or to protect yourself? And, now we know cloth masks are useless, why continue to wear them? So, I do NOT believe this virus will magically go *poof* and disappear. In fact, I think it is never going away. But, I refuse to wear a mask for the rest of my life. I think it is more prudent to make sure we are doing what we can for those most at risk (and we know who those people are), and for the rest of society to get on with life. |
+1. I draw a big distinction with masks between essential services and “nice to do”. Indoor dining, you take the risk and pay the price, if there is one. Ditto gyms, concerts, movie theaters, Top Golf, nail salons, etc. You can choose to patronize or not based on your comfort level with their mitigation. But everyone should be able to go to doctors offices, pharmacies and grocery stores safely. Even with an unvaxxed two year old. Even if you are immunocompromised. Even if you are 85 with CPOD. Because Instacart isn’t free and some people are on a tight budget. And everyone needs to eat. So, I do think everyone should mask up when they visit essential services, to keep them accessible for everyone, even very high risk. Youngkin is an a@@hole because there was probably a mom with kids too young to mask or vaxx, some one immunocompromised , someone very old with lots of conditions. And they need groceries too. The level of disregard is gross. I’d feel different if he were unmasked at a Caps game. You can se the rules before you go, decide if you are comfortable with them, and if not, stay home. In related news, he needs to wear a mask at pharmacies, doctors offices and in some places with essential government services, like SSA offices |
In a pharmacy, grocery store, etc, you are protecting kids under two. Because not everyone can Instacart or pay a nanny. I’m glad PP’s kid just had the sniffles. Our ped (South Riding) sent out an email a week or two ago saying that Childrens NMC was admitting 15-20kidsva day, mostly under 5, with COVID as a primary Dx (not an incidental finding). 1/3 admitted to the ICU. That’s over 100 DMV kids a week at one hospital Wear a mask— at least if you are somewhere parents and young kids might have to be (vs choose to be for fun). And if you are Governor, set that example, rather than doing a big “screw you” to parents with kids under 5. |
FFS.... there is NO mask mandate in Alexandria and this store had NO mask mandate. Interesting that you are making up your own rules based on your criteria. If you want to wear a mask.... wear one. If your kid is immunocompromised.... put a mask on your kid or don't take him/her out to public places. There is no rule or law or mandate to wear a mask in this store. And, many of those who were wearing masks were wearing cloth masks which even the CDC is pretty much worthless. This is the absolutely most stupid "scandal" to have lasted 4+ days when we have politicians around the country who IMPOSE mask mandates then go out in public and ignore their own mandates. THOSE are the real scandals. |
Well said! Nothing the Governor did was hypocritical in the least. He’s said from the beginning that wearing masks should be a personal choice and that he is against mandates. Same goes for vaccines - he is fully vaccinated and has encouraged everyone to get vaxxed as well. But no mandates. Also incredible that this ridiculous thread is still on the main Political forum when it should be in local politics. No one (normal) cares about whether the VA Governor wore a mask in a store in which it’s not required in the first place. Yet again, Dems make fools out of themselves with their faux outrage over nothing. |
OTC, he very politely addressed her, by saying "It's all about choices." Which it absolutely is. There is no mask mandate in VA, and the Governor was exercising his CHOICE not to wear one. He is fully vaxxed and boosted. He did nothing wrong, but the level of outrage from nutters like yourself is nothing short of pathetic. Grow up. DP |
This, 100% this. |
I was in the Giant in PY yesterday and probsbly 75% of all white men were unmasked. |
Somehow I doubt that. I don't go to Giant, but go to Costco or Whole Foods in Pentagon City and probably 99% of everyone is masked. The issue with Youngkin is that it was a similar store. Everyone in that store was masked - with the exception of Youngkin and what may have been one or two of his aides. Clearly he has constituents who are still very much concerned about covid, and about the spread. He is being callously oblivious to their concerns. It is not a good look for him. It shows he does not care about his constituents' concerns, even when he is in a room where the very clear majority are masked. |
He should have said “it’s all about leadership” and then put on a mask. But he is not a leader. He is just another Trump loving follower. |
Again, this is a your opinion. You are making up “rules” based on nothing but your feelings. There is no mandate and he is not breaking any actual rules. Frankly, he is practicing exactly what he preaches. As I mentioned upthread, this is all “crabs in a bucket” mentality. We need more people to break away from the groupthink. A lot of us are sick of being forced to pander to irrational and overly anxious people and it’s refreshing to see a leader with the guts to break the cycle. |
“Break away from groupthink” is code for “act like a selfish jerk”. That is why I don’t take you seriously. It’s just a mask. It doesn’t hurt you at all. Get over it. |
And, at about the six-second mark in the video, he did a little "jazz hands"-type gesture. |
+1,000 |
And hopefully we can avoid having another 900,000 Americans die because of selfish jerks more concerned about imaginary "crabbinabuckit groupthink" than they are about the lives of their fellow Americans. |
