CogAT score is here

There's norming to be done. Not sure if that has to happen (for local norms especially) after the test?

Makes sense, the schools have the scores and they may be released to parents during thanksgiving break.
My DS scored 160 in NNAT, so he should be in the pool. That means I just have to complete the parent questionnaire and 2 home samples, Correct? Do I have to complete the level IV referral form also? Or the referral form is only for kids who are not in the pool?

AART told us to do it anyway so we, the parents, get to have another page of paper to describe the kid.
She admitted it’s a total mess and that why some of us received the scores while some didn’t. The way they do it this year will be different from last year (because of no CogAT last year) and they probably will drop NNAT entirely next year.

DP. Are you serious they are creating school by schook norms?

Is this only for local level IV? Or could it be that in one pyramid, a kid in a McMansion in Title 1 school needs only to clear 120 for center based AAP while kid in apartment in higher COL area needs to clear 134 or something?

It’s also unfair for those at schools where lots of kids “prep”. I mean unfair for those that don’t prep.

This info of this meeting changed a bit from the first one that happened in September.
In September, AART told us that the in pool score is 132. This morning she said it will vary for schools depending on CogAT school norm and she doesn’t know what it’s going to be yet. She just told us to submit a referral regardless of whether we have received scores. The scores for our school probably will be mailed during Thanksgiving break.
The AART also said that they are just using the nonverbal part of the CoGAT for kids that don’t have an NNAT. So at least at our school they’re not requiring kids who missed the NNAT to take it.[/quote

So, individual school will determine their own cutoff? One school can have a cutoff of 140 and another can have it as 120? What about center school? The central committee is not going to determine the cutoff now?

OP here. With respect to the local norming, our base school is not a center. The AART said that they wanted to make sure that all schools were sending at least some nominees to the central committee for equity reasons, and because some schools have a lot more students with access to test prep. The decision then made by the central committee is based on a holistic approach.

Now I am confused. So there is a county cutoff score and a local norm score. If your kids meet either one of those, are you in the pool? Sounds like you have two chances to get into the pool. Or is local norm just for principal placement?

Wow! This is what they did with TJ, all for Equity.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. There is no county cutoff score. Again, simple thing is just filling a parent referral form so your kid can be in the screening pool.

There used to be a cutoff score of 132 until last year. After TJ, they are making same kind of changes to AAP.

Where do you see this re cutodf changes?

Local standards are for Principal Placement. There will be a district cut off for in-pool scores and there will be local cut offs for Principal Placement.

That’s not what the Island Creek AART said today. (And we’re not a center school, so there is no principal placement here). She was very explicit that the county is making a change this year, and that each school will have its own cut off for in-pool scores. It’s always possible she’s wrong, but that’s what she told us.

OP Principal placement almost exclusively occurs at non-center schools.

The schools with local level IV have maybe 20 kids qualify for AAP but choose to remain at neighborhood school. Level IV class has room for a few more so the principal fills those spots.
