Horrific story--woman's dog is killed while on leash in Phoenix by stranger!

I just read this horrific story of a poor woman who was walking her one year old golden retriever, a man came up and he growled to protect her and the man unprovoked shot him dead!!! I can not imagine the horror and shock. They haven't found him yet but, only offered 1,000 reward. Hope when they find him they lock him away for a very long time. My heart breaks for her!

Guarantee there's more to this story. Also, just because your dog is on a leash, doesn't mean that it's sufficient. Your dog must also be under your control. And use real (short) leashes, not retractable ones.

What is wrong with you? You are sick. It was a golden retriever puppy for gods sake. You are going to defend someone shooting it. Get a life.

That PP is blaming the victim is really sad, particularly on the day after three men were convicted for shooting a man just for jogging while black, and the day after Arizona native Gabby Giffords ran an op Ed in the Washington post about gun violence. There’s a lot of nut jobs with guns in this country, particularly in places like Maricopa county.

No, dog owners who have zero regard for other people are the sick ones. If you're shooting a dog lunging at you, especially off leash (or on some moronic retractable clothesline) then you do what you do to protect yourself. If you can't be responsible for your animal at all times, then don't get one. I say this as someone who's never owned or shot a gun in my life. I'm so tired of irresponsible dog owners, and I'm sure there's much more to this story.

Was it a pit bull mix with retriever? Curious, bc Goldens aren't really growlers or " defensive" that would cause a passerby to feel threatened and shoot the dog.

Another take is that perhaps there was bad history between the 2 people and as revenge/payback/one-up the other the guy shot the dog.

If that were the case the woman would know the guy.

There is a crazy dog owner in my neighborhood - she believes she is the victim of dog attacks. I've met her and her dog - the dog is very oddly behaved. It's so submissive that other animals don't know how to respond. They also can't control the animal properly so in a blink it's wrapped around you. She has accused multiple neighbors of having aggressive dogs that have psychologically damages her dog and child.

Of course there were witnesses and every person involved except her disagrees with her account. So it is entirely possible for someone to have a different reality viewpoint.

I just read the article. I hope they catch him and he gets jail time. He shouldn’t have been close enough to a woman walking at 11pm to even have the dog growl at him, and nowhere does it say he lunged or attacked the person. A growl us a warning. The man was too close to his owner. That’s what dogs are good for.

This stood out to me too. Normal men do not get close enough to a woman out in a residential neighborhood walking a dog alone at night. The dog was freaked and probably rightly so. You don't shoot Air Bud because you were being a creeper.

Even if the dog growled that was quite an overreaction. Ou can’t just shoot people or animals because you feel momentarily scared. Cross the street ffs.

Our Golden would growl f he sensed danger. Our kids ran out to play in the backyard with him. They were climbing on their play set and he ran in front of them several feet away and started growling and barking like I had never heard. He was ready to attack something. There was a huge deer buck another 15 feet away standing it’s ground. It ended up turning and running away.

There are two sides to every story. I would like to hear what the shooter has to say. However, if what this woman says is true, the man should get some jail time.
