This stood out to me too. Normal men do not get close enough to a woman out in a residential neighborhood walking a dog alone at night. The dog was freaked and probably rightly so. You don't shoot Air Bud because you were being a creeper.

No you are allowed to walk down a street at 11 pm even if there is a woman there walking her dog. Just stop.

Yes, you are *allowed* just like you are *allowed* to stand right next to someone at an ATM. But it's still rude and suspicious behavior. Considerate people--and especially considerate men--give other people--and especially women--space when conditions permit. On a dark neighborhood street, a considerate man gives a woman walking alone space. Do you seriously not know any women?

Np here. If the walkway or sidewalk is narrow, the man has every right to be there and use the walkway or sidewalk. If he doesn't want to walk around the woman by stepping onto the street or stepping on someone's lawn to get around the woman there's not a lot she can complain about.

He has the right, but it's antisocial behavior late at night and he should be aware that he is probably going to (rightly) be perceived as a potential threat. He has the right to not care, but considerate people generally don't choose to make people uncomfortable or afraid.

Well, there's nothing to stop women from keeping their distance too. Don't put this all on men.

You do know men attack women more than women attack men? And when is it ever ok to shoot and kill someone's pet?

You and your fake compassion are tiresome. You clearly need professional help. For the sake of poor people around you (and poor dogs), seek one.

You need it. My compassion isn't fake

Sure it is. Like DT-like compassion.

What drugs are you on? Please go away because you are a piece of shit.

So a woman is walking down the street with her dog. A man stops a car and approaches her...and she should have kept her distance because not to do is putting it all on men?

Do I have that right?

If a man stops his car and approaches a woman obviously that is weird, creepy and potentially dangerous but now you are going to the extreme. If we're talking about the same man in the original post I didn't see the bit about him driving a car. All I read is that she was walking her dog, a man approached her, her dog growled, he shot the dog, apologized and WALKED off. Now you're mentioning a car? Wow, if he abandoned his car too I hope he at least gets it towed.

This is a good example how not to respond when someone calls you unhinged.

OP, you seem oddly combative about this article. Did something like this happen to your dog?

I am op. What kind of help are you suggesting? I think the man who shot the dog needs help A( and jail time) and you too because you have lost any compassion. "Please get help" is so lame and adds nothing to the conversation. I saw this story and was horrified and I thought most people would agree that this poor dog did not deserve death for protecting his owner. I put myself in her shoes and thought what would I do if that happened to me? And then all the crazies came out telling stories about how they knew someone who was bitten or not all men are bad blah blah blah when this has nothing to do with this particular story!

Maybe you are all trolls but, I thank all the replies that have agreed that it was a terrible story.

What is odd about being upset that this has happened? It did not happen to me directly but, that does not make me uncaring. Where is your decency?

That's really sad.

I live in Phoenix. There are lots of crazy people here. And they own guns. My money is on the shooter was on drugs-another problem here. That's not the best area of town.

My dog growls if strange men get too close, too. That’s part of the point of having a dog. The dog was leashed so if he walk d away, there’d be no problem

What is wrong with you? You are sick. It was a golden retriever puppy for gods sake. You are going to defend someone shooting it. Get a life.

No, dog owners who have zero regard for other people are the sick ones. If you're shooting a dog lunging at you, especially off leash (or on some moronic retractable clothesline) then you do what you do to protect yourself. If you can't be responsible for your animal at all times, then don't get one. I say this as someone who's never owned or shot a gun in my life. I'm so tired of irresponsible dog owners, and I'm sure there's much more to this story.

( op) Do you not believe the police? The police are saying this was unprovoked. Please stop talking about other stories that have nothing to do with this case.

Macie, an 11-month-old Labrador mix, died last week along the trails of a wildlife sanctuary of Algonkian Regional Park.

Her owner, Susan Smith, was walking Macie off-leash when the dog ran and jumped near an older man and woman.

That man pulled out his 38-revolver and fired.

"She died in my arms. It is extremely painful. She was a good dog," Smith told WUSA9, sniffing back tears.

Off leash and attack a man and woman. How are the police saying this is unprovoked?
