That may be part of the monday furlough procedures.. who knows. You aren't getting paid unless your time is in the system/certified.

timekeepers/payroll are excepted personnel. if there is a shutdown there will be four hours on monday for "orderly shutdown" activities, which will include setting an ooo message on email and voicemail as well as filling out and validating your time for the prior week. if there is an extended shutdown agencies plan to issue a partial paycheck for pp20.

once a shutdown happens for your agency, all future leave is cancelled. if you are excepted and would need to take leave anyway the leave request would need to be resubmitted and you would be placed into furlough status.

Thank you for this helpful response.

I’m guessing most agencies still don’t think a shutdown going beyond a very short Sunday one will happen.

Apparently they don't follow current events much.

Personally I think they will shutdown for a few days so McCarthy can appease the far right.

Of course they do. Very very closely.

That’s not the case. My agency is planning but can’t share guidance until OMB gives an all clear.

My department is relatively certain there is a shut down coming

I'm curious - do you mean an all clear around who is furloughed vs. exempted/excepted? Or is there different guidance than what OMB has published for each agency (which is very, very detailed)?

We have a senior leadership meeting Friday morning to discuss it, but that's all we've heard so far.

Reposting with correct formatting, sorry for repeat:

DP. With the change in backpay (now it will officially happen for everyone no matter what), the importance of furloughed, exempted, excepted, essential, etc. is a little different. So agencies can't just use the same guidance from last time, it needs to be updated.

Hearing McCarthy is trying to get a CR package to the floor including border security. So the CR from the Senate and the CR from the house will be vastly different. We'll see how this plays out.

My husband seems optimistic that if we shutdown, it will be for less than 2 weeks, in which case, he's under the impression we won't miss a paycheck. I tried to explain to him it's not that simple. In order for that to happen, wouldn't the govt need to reopen before 10/6 when the pay period ends in order for there to be time for pay to be processed? If this goes through next week, we'll definitely miss a paycheck (if not more). sigh.

You aren't able to miss one paycheck even knowing its coming later? Not trying to be snarky but we know we will get backpay.

Payroll processing is essential - and if the shutdown lasts an odd number of days or past a pay period, then when the government reopens, pay will be processed immediately, not waiting for the next pay period. Your DH's math is better than yours.

It's not that we can't miss it--we can. It's just that I found his cavalier attitude about it annoying. He acted like sure they can shut down for a few days and then everyone will still get paid on time. There are definitely people out there that would be hurt by missing a paycheck or having a delayed paycheck.
