Are there brands for tween girls where the shorts aren't super short?

Anonymous
We have 13 and 11 year old girls. They both keep wanting to only wear very short shorts, and say that's the style. I don't like it for school or "out" (but am ok with it when their friends come over, working out, or they go to a park/pool).

Are there any trendy shorts for tween girls that aren't so short? Right now my oldest seems to at least get it, and changes to jeans or leggings or capris or skorts (she says all shorts these days for girls are Uber short). The younger one just has an epic tantrum. They wear the Adidas/under armour/athletic shorts.

Uh, the trend is short shorts. So there are no trendy shorts for girls that aren't super short.

If your kid is willing to wear non-trendy, I've had good luck with Hanna Andersson knit shorts or with the knit shorts in boys section of H&M (which mercifully have pockets!).

Not trendy, no.

But I checked to see how long an inseam my DD could wear and still not look like she's wearing middle-aged shorts (it's going to vary by body shape) and hunted high and low to find these "short" shorts. She doesn't look like the leading edge of fashion but she fits in nicely with her peers.

We found reasonable length shorts at Old Navy that my 13-year-old likes.

Sorry, I found some at Target and Athleta last year, but they must not be selling those same pairs of shorts this year as my link shows "item not found."

But I will tell you that to find these, I literally ordered many, many pairs of shorts from different retailers and had DD try them on at home to find ones she was happy with. I have never worked so hard to find clothing for her before, but that seems to be what you have to do to find decent shorts for DDs these days.

I’ve given up trying.

I hate this so much.

My daughter is tall and thin so it’s already a struggle to find clothes that fit without falling off.

I’ve finally figured out that if I buy Bermuda shorts a couple sizes too small, they’ll fit at the waist and be long enough so it’s not a super short shorts. For example, if she’s a size 12 by height, I buy size 8 bermuda shorts and they end up looking normal.

My tween wears Old Navy Bermuda shorts. The inseam is 5 or 7 inches, i.e. above mid thigh but covering her butt when she sits.

There's nothing you can do about trends, but the pockets hanging down below the short hem is such a dumb look. I always laugh when I see it.

Not the original poster, but many thanks. My DD, age 12, is 5'6", 110lbs and mostly legs. The struggle is real!

Boys baggy long cargo shorts oddly are a trend (or were last year) here in portland Oregon.

This is us too. My kid is a 14 and we buy 10s. I also like Crz Yoga on amazon - it's a lulu knock off and they make kids' sizes that run kind of long. Their adult sizes have the same inseam options as lulu.

Agree with the poster who orders a bunch of things online. We've tried looking in store and it's pointless.

Unlike OP my kids really don't like the short shorts trend. It doesn't help that the short shorts seem to run really wide through the upper thigh/seat compared to the way my kids are built.
