These are reasonable easy solutions. Stop being dramatic and find a solution.

Telling a tape victim that she's being dramatic. You're a special kind of stupid.

That should read 'rape victim.'

She didn't say she was a rape victim, she said she was "assaulted" which generally means some guy whistled at her in her short skirt and she felt vulnerable for a moment.

She is being dramatic because there are easy solutions. Not dramatic because she wants light. Rape was never mentioned btw. USE A DAMN FLASHLIGHT! How is this still a discussion?

But my god she has to carry two bags! How can she also work a flashlight?! She's not a rocket surgeon!

You didn't see the post that said it was a sexual assault?

Exactly what I said, some guy whistled at her, that is what constituted sexual assault these days. If she had been touched physically she would have said raped.

Is it too much to ask DB to install solar powered garden lights from their house down both directions of the public sidewalk so I can park on either side. And also is it too much to ask DB to watch out the window 5 minutes before my scheduled arrival time to make sure the coast is clear and watch me approach for safety? And is it too much to ask that DB install a biometric house lock so someone can't break in incase I forget to lock the door? Oh and is it too much to ask that MB provide pepper spray as part of my compensation package?

I was sexually assaulted by a stranger while walking alone in the dark. This isn't something to joke about. Everyone deserves to have safe working conditions. Why is asking for a porch light to be left on such an unreasonable thing to you?
This entire thread makes me sad.

I would not leave my porch lights on all night for nanny. Nor would I race down at 6:30 am to turn them on for her. If my nanny ever asked for something so ridiculous I would fire her, but luckily I have nothing to worry about because I hired a mentally stable nanny.

You would fire someone for asking you to leave a porcelain tht on for her in the dark? That says waaaaaaaay more about you than it does her.

I need someone mature, stable, and smart to care for my DS, not someone who is worried about being raped every morning and can't function in the real world.

I have just the solution! Hire a nanny that frequently posts random hypotheticals all day on DCUM. I bet they make superb nannies.

OP should quit. Go get another job with a shorter walk-way.

Better yet OP should get out of the nanny profession.

OP here. I was raped. I was walking to my car in a dark parking lot, someone ran up behind me, hit me in the head with something-which knocked me out and then they raped me. Is that better? Am I now justified in asking for a light to be left on for me when I go to work in the dark? I pray that nobody has to go through that.
You need to do some real soul searching because there is something wrong with you.
The nastiness I have witnessed on this thread has made me physically ill. I am done with this thread.

Nope. You can't ask people to go above and beyond because of your fears. If you have some issues you are trying to overcome you should be upfront when you interview and state that you requires A, B, and C accommodations.

They're likely just forgetting. Hopefully. I work for an MB now who really doesn't want any single detail to reflect that I come there to work in her home each day. Or to be bothered to do or remember something out of her norm, for my sake. For instance, I will get there on or after a snowy day and the entire driveway is shoveled, except for the area where I park. She probably thinks THEY don't use that area, so no need to shovel. Never mind that I am parking and walking there, and when it turns to ice, trying not to fall.

I really hope and think they are forgetting, OP. I have worked for many great families where that would be the case. This MB is the worst and the only one I've known like this. I think there are more good ones than bad.

That's so sad to be treated so poorly by "parents" when you're caring for their child.
