My NF won't leave an outdoor light on for me RSS feed

Anonymous
I begin work at 6:30am. I arrive when it is pitch black and have to park on the street. There are street lights, but they are rather far from the house and don't provide much light. I have to stumble around in the dark through their yard, try to find my house key in order to get into their home. They also don't leave any lights on in the house for me.
I have asked them many times to at least leave an outdoor light on for me, as I see it as a safety issue.
My MB will oblige for a week or two and then the lights go off again.
Is this an unreasonable request? Am I requesting too much?

Get a flashlight. They don't care about you.

I'd just keep a flashlight in my car and get the house keys out of my purse before exiting the car. No big deal.

this really isn't a big deal. they probably aren't trying to be rude but probably forget to leave a light on all night. and really, how many keys do you have that you are fumbling around for minutes trying to find it? it shouldn't take that long, even in the pitch black (which it isn't)

That is a huge safety issue. Telling someone to just use a flashlight is dangerous. Rapists and robbers look for people with their hands full. Someone carrying a purse, lunch bag and a flashlight while trying to unlock a door in the dark is an attacker's dream.

Mention it again and leave a post-it note by the light switch.

Hopefully the are just forgetful and not total assholes.

+1. Maybe leave a note so that both parents know as well. I can imagine turning it on myself, and my H turning it off later.

If it is such a safety issue you would have taken care of it yourself by now, a flashlight, a keychain light, your iPhone light, etc. You are an adult (supposedly), please act like one.

Asking for safe working conditions isn't an adult thing to do?

Pp has a good point.

If you feel like it is a safety issue, take care of it and buy a flashlight. Also, get your key out while you are still in your car so you don't have to fumble at the door.

I left home for work at 6:15am this morning and it was plenty light out. I find it hard to believe you couldn't find a key in the early daylight.

17:58 again. The PP with the good point was 17:42, NOT 17:55.

Have you ever worked, PP? I mean held an actual job? I would no more walk to my place of employment without adequate lighting and safe conditions than I would fly to the moon!!! I work in a hospital and you better believe we all (men and women both) have brightly lit walkways and parking lots when we arrive at work in the dark. I assure you all of the doctors, nurses and staff employed at our hospital are adults.

Of course a nanny should have the same safe and comfortable working conditions at her place of employment.

I agree, nanny should go to college and get a real job. She deserves to have a light on!

What a cruel, hurtful thing to say. Does it make you feel better about yourself to say such awful things to people?
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Since you're so concerned about my education level, I have a master's degree. I've been a nanny for 10 years and earn more than most of the people who graduated with me. This isn't a job, it is my career and I am damn good at it.
