I was wondering what's the most common reason from au pairs not being interested in interview. I get : I don't think we will be a good match reason but that doesn't say anything unless I ask why and then I can see they're lying.. Is it DC is not California thing? I'm tired of this. |
We mostly just had au pairs who never replied, which was super frustrating because there was no apparent reason. We live in nyc and our “matching specialist” tried to convince me it’s because our profile said we don’t want or need a driver and “most au pairs want to drive”.
No, I don’t think most au pairs would actually want to drive in nyc once they see how much traffic there is and how it’s impossible to park anywhere. |
I’m a host mom, not an AP so take this fwiw. I think factors that come into play are number of kids (more than 2 can be tough), location, having them work a full 45-hour schedule regularly, including weekends, and not providing regular access to a car. I also think it can be tougher, anecdotally, for minority (non white) families to get a response. |
Location, number of kids, number of hours required, perks offered |
Many APs don't want to work! So best to continue showcasing your reality and the ones who are actually interested will eventually respond. |
Are you with Cultural Care, OP? This has been happening much for fequently with this agency. |
I think this is what agencies recommend to au pairs. I guess it's easier than be honest and say: Sorry but I don't want to work full 45 hours or I don't want a family without a car. |
Impossible to know the reasons, but it happens to us many times during our search for the next AP. A few times the AP has admitted they want a warm climate, either CA or FL. One went to Texas, after being sold on a year-round pool and a vacation home in Colorado. She went into rematch after one month. |
I am not in anyone else’s head but we are a nonwhite family asking only 20ish hours a week, car access, 2 kids, and it took us many months to match. Like over 7 months. We did need IQ but we had many dozens of rejections for vague reasons. |
We have 4 kids and live in a secondary city. Rejections like crazy. All using the canned language CCAP now provides. |
4 kids is a lot. |
Yep. But I bet you a nickel our job with 4 school aged kids is easier than a job with two young ones! |
Well my APs rarely got to drive my car since i needed it all the time, and i absolutely used 45 hours week. I got the best 3 APs I could have asked for. I had only 1 kid, though. Plus I spoke their languages very basically and I think they appreciated that. |
Its all relative. |
APs in CC won’t even accept our requests because we have 3 kids, one an infant. They don’t even get to the point of knowing the two older kids are in full time school.
3 kids is probably the main reason, ages of kids the second (5, 3, 6mo). Schedule, lack of perks (we don’t wave around a car as a bribe), and location (not CA or NYC) come next. We don’t seem to have issues as a mixed race, non religious family. Or maybe those superficial APs have already shut the door on us at 3 kids. |
