Uh obviously. lol. I posted a few times in a row because I can't edit my posts. |
There's no real reason to get an AP other than getting a live-in house bitch. Their are many american live-in nannies, and many nannies who live in the america but are from other countries who are looking for live-in positions, too. The cultural aspect is absolute BS excuse. Parents would rather hire people who hardly speak English and from another country because it's in their best interest, financially and otherwise. |
Cant we all agree to disagree??? |
You can state your opinion just like I can. The difference is that you mow over anyone who has a different opinion than you and try to force yours down our throat. |
This discussion is ridiculous. The above person obviously hasn't talked to many (or any?) au pairs or host families. |
I'm not a parent but can you please stop? You're embarrassing yourself, really. Also, there are more parents murdering their children then nannies because THERE ARE MORE PARENTS IN THE WORLD THEN THEIR ARE NANNIES. Parents who kill are in the minority so your logic doesn't make sense. Again, you're not making yourself look good. I know there are alot of smart, professional nannies but you most definitely aren't one of them. Lol. |
PP here. I know I "bumped" this post but this (Au-pair) section is rather slow anyways. Oh well, shoot me. |
Hardly. Why would I agree that au pairs are here as cheap labor, have no rights, at your beck and call 45 hours a week. Take a look at the threads about an. AP's personal computer/email hacked into and printed for HF to read. The thread where the HM has an impossible list of what AP duties are when not taking care of HF children. The OP of this thread not only has cheap child cae but believes the AP is also her personal maid, housecleaner, and whatevrr the HM wants her to do. It is a program that must be revamped with criminal charges able to brought against host famies who treat au pairs like maids, etc. Nobody told you to have children and too bad if childcare is expensive. Using and abusing young women from abroad is not the answer to affordable.care. |
Seriously? You think of APs as "cheap labor?" You clearly have never had one before. As a single mom with one child, I can tell you that the weekly stipend plus the upfront payment of several thousand dollars doesn't even touch the cost. My grocery bill has almost tripled (they never, ever buy their own food), same with utilities, gas, car insurance, etc. I take her out to eat with us and bring her on vacations (always triples the bill). She is always in need of something, which I oblige (a white noise machine for her room, softer sheets, etc). And of course I end up hiring babysitters for anything outside of work, since the extra 5 hours were likely added when people realized it takes about 30 mins both ways for parents to get to and from work each day.
Nevertheless, I chose to hire an au pair above day care and babysitters because I wanted my son to be comfortable with someone. I wanted him to be able to come home at the end of the day and play with his own things. I wanted him to be exposed to a new culture and possibly learn a new language. I had au pairs growing up and I mostly loved them. There are definitely families who take advantage, but there is plenty of that in reverse. Hey, I think I hear someone wanting to cross your bridge. Better get your riddles ready! |
I see about six or seven international au pairs several times a week where I take my kids for lessons. The way these kids treat their au pairs, is nothing short of shameful. You want to see "slave" treatment? You got it. Except it's not out of Hollywood. |
I think most of the "slave" posters are actually shitty nannies or former nannies who are pissed at the AP program because they can't find work and they blame the APs for taking their jobs! ![]() |
Someone hit her nerve there. Lol. |
Your own post about your au pair wasn't keeping you busy enough, so you dug up this year old post? Why not spend the time learning how to speak to your au pair about your expectations? |
Are you the same person who told me to go through the message board to look for suggestions and called me "immature?" Talk about not being busy enough... |
The nasty kids are following in their parents footsteps. How lovely. |
