It's a tribute. Not a 'cultural center' reflecting the very religion who's zealots murdered those victims.

I guess we shouldn't have any Christian, Jewish, or Atheist cultural center anywhere in this country

How about the Jews build a temple right alongside a site where Palestinians are massacred. You'd welcome that I'm sure ... something tells me you'd be screaming 'occupation'

If you meant Israel, check. Not only do they build but they they also steal your land to build whatever they want on it , Geez , who knew?

And again, why are you here? Why did you or your family come to America? Are you actually in America or are you writing from outside the country?

Im in Afghanistan

SO God is off the hook in terms of a direct response! What about people who DO hear directly from God? How are they different from the ones who only call out to God?

And what's with the angel? Any reason to think it's a real angel instead of just a character in a dream? Why would god send an angel to explain why he doesn't directly respond

Obviously the way you understand/interpret this depends on your own personal belief system. In Islam, we are told that God said : "I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed." If God talked to you specifically, and showed Himself to you in His own magnificence, then this life wouldn't be a test now, would it? You would have the evidence to believe in Him since you would Know He exists. Faith comes in Not knowing and still believing. To a Muslim, the whole design of this universe is made up for a TEST of human beings. And that test is whether we believe in our Creator or not after watching billions of signs of His existence in ourselves and as well as in the whole universe. If there was a clearcut incontrovertible proof that was acceptable to everybody, then this life wouldn't be a test which kind of defeats its purpose and the purpose of Faith.

I don't know what's worse, bigots who hide behind free speech (then outrageously compare themselves to Rosa Parks, yes Geller did that) or the ignoramus who follow them blindly. When even Trump, Fox News, and Charlie Hebdo think you've gone too far, it is time to hit on the pause button and ponder on your actions. Geller's event was not based on the love and defense of the 1st amendment , it was based solely upon her hate for Muslims and her twisted logic. That is not protecting freedom of speech, it's using it to spread hate and to dismantle another constitutional right: freedom to practice your religion freely without fear of persecution.

Most married women in Egypt went through genital mutilation - health minister
Published time: May 11, 2015 17:17

"Some 92 percent of married women in Egypt underwent female genital mutilation, the country’s health minister said, citing a recent study. He added that the majority of girls face this ordeal when they are only nine to 12 years old.

The results of the Egypt Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) were announced by Health Minister Adel Adawy at a Sunday conference dedicated to the study, Egyptian media reported. The poll was carried out last year and involved women aged 15 to 49.

According to the minister, only 31 percent of the operationiis are carried out by doctors, with most being performed by traditional midwives and “health barbers.”

The rate of female circumcision in rural places is extremely high – almost 95 percent while in urban areas it reaches 39.2 percent, the minister said."

It is barbarous and beyond disgusting.

It isn't rare, either. It isn't a lie or "stupid" to point out Islam mutilates women.

Can you point me to the text in "Islam" that promotes the mutilation of women? I'll wait...

Check the Hadiths.

Which Hadith, exactly? Please point me in the right direction. As a muslim woman, I'm curious to know which part of my religion mandates this and why islam is cutting off people's genitals.

The poster has no clue what they are saying.

It's mentioned for sure. This is where justification is found for the practice.
http://islamqa.info/en/427

What exactly have you read and understood from this link? Because as a practicing Muslim, islamQa is the last place I go when I have a question. And even they are saying its not required and the justification is possibly not even based on an authentic source soooo...

Lol this is actually funny. For one, islamQA is such a mixed bag as it is written by anonymous people who respond to random questions submitted to them. It is a site that leans towards salafism and wahabism but what's even more laughable is that on the link the Pp shared they themselves say : 1. It is not obligatory
2. They cite A hadith that mentions female circumcision and also add that the hadith is Daeef which means WEAK lol . So this is your proof??? Oh boy, ridonculusss !!!

Well, there is only one reason for Hamas to exist, without the illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories, there wouldn't be a need for Hamas. From The wise late Christopher Hitchens :

"In order for Israel to become part of the alliance against whatever we want to call it, religious barbarism, theocratic, possibly thermonuclear theocratic or nuclear theocratic aggression, it can't, it'll have to dispense with the occupation. It's as simple as that.
It can be, you can think of it as a kind of European style, Western style country if you want, but it can't govern other people against their will. It can't continue to steal their land in the way that it does every day.And it's unbelievably irresponsible of Israelis, knowing the position of the United States and its allies are in around the world, to continue to behave in this unconscionable way. And I'm afraid I know too much about the history of the conflict to think of Israel as just a tiny, little island surrounded by a sea of ravening wolves and so on. I mean, I know quite a lot about how that state was founded, and the amount of violence and dispossession that involved. And I'm a prisoner of that knowledge. I can't un-know it."

So why are almost all women in Egypt genitally mutilated?

I know, they all went on a walk together en masse and fell on the same sharp object, over and over and over and over and over...

That includes Christian women as well. FGM is common in parts of Africa, including Egypt but is unknown in most of the Muslim world. In Africa, in the places that FGM is practiced, it crosses religions bounds.

+1000 FGM is a cultural issue that predates Islam and is not practiced by the majority of Muslims. A little bit of research will show this and citing a country that is predominantly muslim that has an FGM issue doesn't change this fact as correlation does not equal causation.

It is a lie and stupid to say that Islam mutilate women, so stop it already. In Egypt, this is done by both Christian Copts and Muslims alike, so the copts also follow Islam? . And just so you know, in that same country, ,the Grand Mufti of Egypt Ali Gomar ( a muslim....) says: “The practice must be stopped in support of one of the highest values of Islam, namely to do no harm to another ,in accordance with the commandment of the Prophet Mohammed “Accept no harm and do no harm to another.”

Could you read and comment on this article? I'd like your perspective.

If you are just going to call it "stupid" though, don't bother.

I am not sure what perspective you're looking for on an article that denies the existence of Islamophobia and whose premise is that Geller is a defendant and representative of free speech? My point of view is clear on both of those issues, so not sure what more you're looking for?

I guess Palestinians should not kidnap, bomb, or murder in any other way, Israelis. Let's try that and see if Netanyahu 'manufactures' another war.

Well if Israel would just stop its continued brutal occupation of the Palestinian territories and terrorist attacks on a defenseless civilian population , maybe just maybe we wouldn't be having this conversation. There won't be any peace until the end of the illegal occupation!

If a group committed to freedom of expression hosted a contest of Muhammad cartoons, I would feel differently, though I would hope they would address other religions as well. But, when a group that is engaged in an ongoing hate campaign against Islam hosts such a contest, their motives cannot be ignored.

It is unfortunate that you so willingly ignore Geller's Islamophobia and deem her worthy of praise and support. I am sure you wouldn't so easily ignore or excuse racism or anti-Semitism.

There is no need to address other religions because no-one is being murdered for drawing cartoons about other religions.

I am not a fan of Pamela Geller. Her website attempts to collate all the news of atrocities committed in the name of Islam. That is fine - it is hardly fair and balanced but I could say the same thing about the CAIR website. But her reader feedback is filled with racist and Islamophobic statements which she does not appear to stop. So I don't want to be associated with her, but that does not mean that everything she does is wrong.

And I am in strong support of the "draw Muhammed" event. I am in support of someone being able to say "if the Prophet Muhammed were alive today, he would be aghast the actions of ISIS and Al-Queda. Or as a cartoonist would express this, by showing a drawing of Muhammed crying while viewing a terrorist act. As far as I could tell (the media was not very helpful in showing the drawings), the drawings at the contest were like this, and not at all racist or Islamaphobic.

There are racists who try to attach themselves to this event, but the event shouldn't be defined by them, anymore than Islam should be defined by the actions of a few terrorists.

That has been said over and over again . There is no religion on earth that promotes rape, murder, torture, oppression, or war and if you can't comprehend that , this discussion is pointless.....
