Traditional style, sunken living room. This was hard...you might look at real estate listings in neighborhoods where you know the homes were built in the same era. Perhaps those might have some ideas?

Black and white glam kitchens.

Yellow bedrooms, emphasis on men's spaces.

I think balancing with grey or blue might make sense.

I know there's a dress there, but I just liked this one.

I know the walls aren't yellow, but...
I'm up to a request about home bars. Seems timely.

Hi friends! I just wanted to say that I see your requests (and the past one that I haven't addressed yet) and I will post over the weekend. Even though there are much bigger things going on in our community right now, I'm looking forward to tracking down some pretty things to look at when I get a chance.

Hope everyone is safe and healthy.
Non-white kitchens without islands, possibly w/ brass fixtures and wood floors...

No wood flooring, but so cool

Layered rugs...

Some living spaces..

Bedrooms with color/wallpaper behind the bed...

Hello, friends! I'm going to work on some requests this morning.

Still waiting for the poster whose son is going to college to chime in on what they want to do with that bedroom. Just give me some ideas about function (guest room, living space, office) and some colors or features you're interested in seeing.

Also wondering if the poster who wrote about light fixtures is looking for a certain room (foyer, dining, kitchen, etc). Any finishes/colors you love or want to stay away from?

Coming up...
1. Bedrooms with accent walls
2. Layered rug looks
3. Non-white kitchens without islands, possibly w/ brass fixtures and wood floors
4. Interesting home bars

Anonymous wrote:I love this thread! Two requests for you: 1) traditional living/family rooms that also have builder grade white/beige carpets. Bonus if they have some sort of leather, wood or texture like sisal or textiles to make it interesting.

I'm not sure of your style, so I'm going all over the place...

I like most of those a lot. What I think I’m seeing is a need for black/hard texture to ground the beige a bit? Like the room with the black tables and fireplace. We have a living room that has similar vibe but need to decorate a family room (with a tv) that feels less formal. The carpet has been feeling like a distraction but it looks so lovely in these. I like Peter Dunham and the ladies over at McGrath2 these days.

Something that also jumps out at me is the mix of skirted and non-skirted seating. There's something nice about that mix of wood legs and fabric. Maybe the legs of tables next to the seating would work if all of your furniture is skirted. I'm no pro, so I'm just guessing!

OH! Are you going to turn it into something else, like a guest room? What colors do you want to use?

OP I love the look of those trendy blue kitchen cabinets but our kitchen is small ish (maybe 10x13) and we have uppers up to the ceiling. Is it possible to do bright blue without it being overwhelming or white uppers and blue lowers without looking disjointed?

I've seen some beautiful blue kitchens that are on the small side. Let's see what we can find.

White uppers...

I've seen at ton of kitchens where the island is blue, but here's one where the main cabinets are blue and the island is white.

Not blue, but two-tone is different!

Totally not what you asked for, but I came across it and thought it was interesting.
Anonymous wrote:Eye Candy OP, poster looking to add charm to my McMansion here - thank you so much for your help! I'd never heard of Southern Home magazine before. I ran out and bought a copy and subsequently subscribed.

I'd love to know who you follow on IG, what decorating magazines you like etc.

Thank you for this fun thread and all your helpful posts!

I actually took a couple pictures of the article I was thinking of for you! I hope it's in the issue you have. When you look at the before images, you can thinking of all the new construction homes that were of that style. I love how the house turned out.

This is the first page:

I subscribe to Southern Home and Veranda now. I think someone got me a subscription to House Beautiful as a holiday gift, but I haven't followed them as much in the last year...they seem to be trending a little more contemporary. Sort of like a new Domino or Lonny? Every now and then, I'll pick up an issue of Luxe.

On instagram, I think I follow more individual designers. I'm afraid to try to list some because I know I'll forget a ton and someone will be like "how could you forget so and so!" Just a couple of the DC designers: Sally Steponkus, Erika Bonnell, Pamela Harvey, Mary Doughlas Drysdale, Kelley Promxmire, Barry Dixon...but I should add that I sometimes follow people whose work isn't in line with my style just to be exposed to interesting things.

There's a St. Louis designer I've really loved on instagram lately, Amy Studebaker Designs. Up in Boston, Katie Rosenfeld is great (and she's huge, but doesn't take herself too seriously...see the story of her dog riding a roomba in yesterday's stories). Erin Gates (Elements of Design) and Dina Holland (Honey and Fitz) are bloggers who became designers...very different styles, but their accounts are fun.

Sometimes I watch hashtags like #blueandwhitehome and find new people to follow that way. Or I look at who tagged de Gournay or Samuel & Sons (beautiful trim company) to find new people.
