try acupuncture. amazing results for many women.
Isn't racial demographic information public information? I don't know about private schools, but every school my kids have gone to in VA or TX, the racial breakdown is easily accessible online on school reports, the school district's website, etc. My son is one of two "brown" kids in the class and although part of me wishes it were more diverse, I'm still confident he will have a good experience there. Being one of the few minorities can give him a little perspective and also learn how not to get hung up on physical differences.
The one in Mclean is not good either...very high turn-over rate.
oooh...Jefferson Memorial sounds nice! That would be so pretty with the Potomac and all the white columns and steps... so photogenic! I will def. check that one out for her. Nice price too!
My sister is planning a wedding in May...she is Catholic, fiance is Baptist, so they want to hold it in a non-religious place to avoid any friction between the families. (fiance's parents are unsuccessfully trying to convert her before the wedding) Anywa, a park or something outdoors would be nice. Several places we've checked charge up the wazoo...she's on a military budget and doesn't want to pay $8000 for a couple hours. Any suggestions? Willing to consider DC and MD also.
I don't know any in the area, but you might check acupuncture.com, acupucturetoday.com or naturalhealers.com for listings. All the best ones I know are in CA. Good luck and let us know if you find one you like!
I am looking for a music teacher/school for my 6 year old DS. Prefer piano, but I have a guitar and drums too. His current piano teacher is a bit far and I can't find anyone else on craigslist. Suggestions?
Swanson Middle School alumni here!! Swanson rocks...but probably just as much as all the other Arlington schools.
oops I mispelled the word "too". It should be "to". Don't want anyone to think I can't spell...lol
I hear you 5'9, my best friend is 6'2 and she used to feel self concious wearing heels, but after she saw my collection she said to hell with it. Now she is 6'5 with heels on, and loves her shoes too much to care what anyone else thinks.

The only time I wear flats is too the beach and to teach class, and even then the soles are an inch thick!
lol. I tip-toe too. I guess I will just have to keep tip-toeing.
Like many women, I am a shoe-aholic. I'm trendy and love high heels...not just cuz they allow me to reach the subway rails (I'm vertically challenged), but mostly just because I love fashion. But this makes me the oddball in my office. Everyone else is in jeans and sneakers everyday and then they complain that my heels are too loud. I don't wear half my wardrobe because I don't want to be overdressed (by their standards). I don't want to annoy people, but at the same time I don't want to give up my beloved shoes or the lift they give me. So just curious...how many of you wear heels to work? Do you colleagues complain about it, or do they wear heels too? I see tons of women outside going to work in their heels. Maybe it's just my office? Is there something I can put on the bottoms of my shoes to make them quieter?
Have baby watch you brush your teeth first, so you can demonstrate. I told my DD that there were yucky germs and bugs that would sleep on her teeth if she didn't brush them. Worked like a charm. Now she gets mad if I try to brush for her.
If you are not happy with your situation, make time to explore what else is out there. Maybe there are old colleagues you can do lunch with, expand your network, and like the PP said, see a career counselor. I have a great job, but I too get sick of it.

Just last year I decided to take a new twist in my career path. Whereas I've been in publications for 10 years, my passion is really in the fitness industry. Although I could never support my family working in the fitness field fulltime, it makes a great supplemental income while allowing to me to be personally fulfilled. I never ever thought going to a Zumba workshop would change my life personally and professionally, but it sure has.

So go explore, and open new doors wherever you can find them.
It's great he's concerned with safety, but some people are, jumpy, overly paranoid, always on guard...like my DH! He reminds me the risk analyst Ben Stiller played on Along Came Polly (the paranoia anyway). haha
