Childtime Learning Center

Does have anyone have any feedback on Childtime Learning Center in Bethesda?

My daughter has been there for about 2 months now and so far we are very pleased. She's in the infant room and seems to be well taken care of. If you have any specific questions, please ask.

The following problems regarding Childtime from previous posts I've read:
(1) the one at L'enfant closed down with very little notice to parents.
(2) the one in Bethesda lost one of their kids for a few hours. Kid was found wandering downtown Bethesda.

The one in Mclean is not good either...very high turn-over rate.

Do you have any more information on this? How long ago did this happen? Is it really true or is it one of those urban legends? My daughter is there, and I thought the place was reliable.

It really is true that a child wandered off. I know because I asked when I was there (they wouldn't give details as its confidential). Nevertheless, we used the center for several months for our daughterin the infant room (not a lot of options for us at that time) and we were very happy there. The teachers seemed caring and eager and everyone knew our daughter's name. Suneeta worked well with us re my daughter's food allerges. We were there 1/07-5/07 and then moved to Bright Horizons at NOAA when offered a spot (much closer, and, we think, a little better).

We have two kids there. One in infants and the other in young preschool. The story is true about the child wondering off. As I understand it, the kids were outside in the play area, the child in question got out of the play area and was halfway down the steps before someone caught up with her. It made us very nervous and we did begin to look around for other schools but in the end, decided to stay. Our kids are extraodinarily happy there and have really bonded with the whole staff.

Pros about the school include:

the program/curriculum is pretty good
the Executive Director has a commitment to following procedures and really tries to bring this to the whole team.
in comparison to most of the facilities I have seen, this is the best and cleanest place
the Ed and staff are really great about taking the parents comments and acting upon them

Cons:

Turnover, which seems to be a problem with a lot of schools that we have talk to
During times of turnover, the program/curriculum is not always followed
Last minute notices about things that are happening at the school

I visited the one in Alexandria today and it frightened me. It was in a strip mall with a check cashing center and there were 2 suspect men hanging out. The tour on the inside did not help wipe out that impression despite the fact the director seemed very knowledgable. I will not send my kid there.

I visited the one in Reston and it scared the hell out of me. The place was clean---that was it. The infant section was horrible. There were infants WAILING and WAILING ---no one tending to them!!! TOO many children and not enough care-givers. One care-giver was holding one infant, while she rocked the other infant in the rocking chair with her feet. The infant was WAILING away. I could not even concentrate on my tour--I literally felt like ending the tour and rushing into the infant room to pick up the wailing children.
The assistant director was anti-social, and my tour guide was like 16????? I feel bad for the kids at this center.

re: childtime bethesda; the executive director is very committed and open to suggestions. some teachers are better than others at engaging the children.

I drive by this one occassionally and the whole area gives me the creeps. My husband often jokes that if we left our kid there he'd come home with fleas.

The child that got out in Bethesda made it to east-west highway and a passerby brought the child to the teachers on the playground. No legend; just fact. Ask the director; or look into public record. Be careful.
