This is smart.

We don’t have the space for much extra food, but we are mindful that February and March have brought some paralyzing snow storms to this area before. So we’ve cleared a linen closet shelf and put in an extra week of non perishable food and more OTCs than we usually keep on hand. If we never need it for a virus quarantine, we might need it for a blizzard. If neither happens, we can donate.

Masks, gloves, and Purell make me feel better and I’ll consider that a mental health investment.

Little emergency kit is always good idea regardless of times. Even if you have a tinny place you
probably have some free space under the bed. They have those ten bucks or so flat containers that
fits easily under the bed. It could keep all the basic supplies giving you a little peace of mind.

Thank you.

You are welcome!
Target has it, and I am pretty sure Bed Bath Beyond has tone. Last picture here on the left shows
you how it works. The little wheels make it easier to roll in and out I guess but I would think
one without them would be even cheaper and would slide just as easy in and out.

Not a win for the other people who wanted the “last box of masks.”

He! bought the last box of masks, Not all the masks in the store. A BOX. ONE BOX.

whatever makes you feel better.

Following the same thanks for sharing. And it does make me feel better

And that's how it should be. You have every right to buy a box of masks. Some of these people? Really????

Dude, they don't come individually packed. They come in boxes. One box has like 5 or 10 masks in them them and they are disposable as in one time use only, so what do you mean? Excessive? They are still everywhere, Home Depot, Staples, Amazon, Lowes so people can get them.

The CDC is in the process of developing a real-time diagnostic test to identify the virus and is hoping to quickly roll that test out to states. For now, all samples are being sent to the CDC in Atlanta, a process which takes about a day, from the time clinicians and the CDC agree to test a patient for coronavirus until results come back from Atlanta.

I bought some last night through Amazon.com. They were sold out directly on Amazon, but I hit the "other venders" button and was able to get them from Home Depot, but delivered through Amazon Prime.

I work at a university, so I worry. Students came back to classes from winter break two weeks ago, though, so hopefully all is okay since we haven't heard anything.

Also, for those worrying about Fairfax schools, I think there was talk of shutting them because of the George Mason students. Now we know that two of the three students do NOT have coronavirus and they are still waiting for results for the third. Hopefully that's some pressure off the school system.

I do have one funny story. At Whole Foods on River Road this weekend, we watched an older woman wearing a mask "as a precaution." But no gloves, and she had no problem eating all the food samples with her bare hands, from one end of the store to the other. Makes you wonder.

Well, they're sold out on Amazon right now. Or on back order.

DP. We have three boxes of 15. That was over $75. A friend said today that the sole box at her local hardware was $30. I’ve read that the prices on Amazon are going up due to demand. They don’t expire and it’s probably worth keeping a few boxes on hand just out of psychological comfort.

The SF thing is not worrisome. Municipalities also activate those for regular seasonal flu.

It doesn’t make me wonder. People are capable of being monumentally stupid.

No, we were just moving around the store at same pace. It's a pretty small, cramped store. She announced that she was worried about coronavirus and you couldn't be too careful.

I’m less worried for the US than I was yesterday and more worried for China.

So far, no evidence of H2H transmission in the US. All 5 cases here were in Wuhan. And we only have 5 cases.

Sounds like Wuhan is in a very bad situation.

Apologies if this is a repeat. Suspected case at GMU reported to community yesterday - student returning from China.

No new news today - two other suspected cases in VA ruled out.

FWIW - I teach at GMU, and a student reached out apologizing for missing first class last week after getting stuck in China due to the virus. I'm still showing up to work. Just taking minor precautions - lots of hand washing.

I'm either sane or an idiot. Verdict is still out.
