| Typical delusional WSVA parent... |
Were you at the game? |
| I was not but I know that VDA team and I know that WS team. Not surprising to hear VDA 05 could not finish and had a lot of possession. |
For someone who wasn’t at the game, you’re making quite a few assumptions. The first half was even in possession time with WS getting more scoring opportunities. VDA probably had more shots in the 2nd half but couldn’t finish. And, they took 2 of the worst pk’s I’ve seen in a long time- slow rollers that the keeper didn’t have to work to save. Good teams, first place teams, don’t do that- especially twice. WS, who most people here claim are the bottom of the barrel, won a close game. End of story. |
| I was there and saw a very different game than the one described above. Two very different coaching philosophies and two very different groups of players. Spirit got the win but not even close to being beserved but that’s soccer. Why so much commotion over a single 05 preseason game? |
Because it is WSVA! The only place in town where you can get development and where are the top talent has congregated. Don't you know? Just ask them. |
| “Good teams don’t miss pk’s.” Is that a serious comment? These are children. They mess up sometimes. It doesn’t change the fact that WSVA has very few players that would make VDA at 04 and younger. Spirit celebrating getting dominated and squeaking out a 1-0 win in a preseason game says a lot. |
Great point. I forgot. They are setting the standard for youth soccer in NOVA. McLean, FCV, VDA, and BRYC do not stand a chance. |
Because no matter how any of the players played (on either team), losing to WSVA is pretty embarrassing given (based on the the horses "mouth") "how few would make the team". VDA needs to save face somehow and WSVA is an easy target. If anyone saw domination, it was by neither of these 2 specific 2 teams. |
|
VDA doesn’t need to save face. Stuff happens and they’re a good new program with great players and coaches. I was there and I heard VDA coach laughingly tell somebody he was retiring after dropping that one. I bet Spirit coach was happy to get a win against a good team. I think parents get way more consumed by this than the staff and players. The perpetual attacking of WSVA makes them think everyone is out to get them when they’re just another club trying to carve out a place in NOVA soccer.

WSVA gets "attacked" because they come on here and say things like they have the top talent or the best development in the area. Those things are simply not true at this point. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. But it is not anywhere close to true at the moment. Results from one game are meaningless as well. It is funny how results are indicative of something when WSVA gets the positive results but meaningless (its all about development) when WSVA sits at the bottom of the standing in every single age group except one. |
You may have touched on where the anger is coming from with your "carve out a place" phrase. The area was already crowded with too many elite programs, yet WS dropped anchor right in the middle. It does not surprise me that they are a target for criticism for this and the mediocre records they are producing. |
Stuff does happens... so no need to get on any site and talk trash subsequent to a loss. Let's be real, VDA is a new program essentially in name only for that age group and if VDA parents didn't feel the need to save face, we wouldn't be seeing some of the posts about deserved wins or domination. If a coach needs to say what you mentioned, he's embarrassed. I'd be too. Why wouldn't the Spirit coach be happy for his team? What kind of ridiculous statement is that? |
| PP brought up VDA 05 “poor showing” from the weekend. Nobody mentioned it until then. Results matter when Spirit gets a lucky win but it’s about development if they lose. Assume the original post is from a disgruntled parent now at the elite WSVA. |
Not PP, but does "poor showing" seems to imply to you WSVA development? The subsequent PP could have just said, " Yup, bad day, cold weather, players will continue to learn as they are only 13/14." |
