Stop using common sense and being reasonable. Not welcome on this forum. |

Main point is that WSVA seems to be on par with or better than VDA, in spite of the crap on this forum. Even the U littles played two games a lot closer than their fall DA schedule, against arguably one of the best if not the best 06 team in the area. That shows improvement for them too, any they are playing with multiple 07s and and 08. Pretty strong showing for WSVA overall.
The hits just keep on coming to the attackers in this thread. |
NP here. Previously a lurker, but this one made me want to step into the fray. Hopefully only once. I've followed this thread since the beginning as in full disclosure, my daughter does play at WS. She is a good player. She had offers at other clubs mentioned on this thread. We chose Spirit because of logistics, and we actually kind of liked the idea of a new club that didn't have a political history with its players. And they did make a case for development. Some has been as we had hoped, some less so. It's organizational and growing pains and we know now and knew when we started that there would be issues with a new club, the talent would be mixed, etc. I don't think anywhere in this thread that people have said that WS has the "top talent" though. It doesn't. We are there and we know it doesn't. Not across the board anyway. There are some very good players though and if I"m trying to be unbiased, I think this forum goes a little crazy with the extremes. Saying WS has some good players doesn't mean saying they have the best players among all area clubs in every position. It also doesn't mean there aren't some players that might be better off in less competitive environments. Saying they have good keepers who could start sometimes at other clubs doesn't mean the other clubs don't also have great keepers. And saying they are about development when they lose doesn't mean it's still not about development when they win. It doesn't need to be so black and white. Having read the past 60+ pages, I'd love for it to stop being so personal, but I know that's likely too much to ask. But seriously, let the girls play -- if they are at Spirit and happy, good for them. If they are unhappy and talented, you'll see them (or already have been seeing them) at your club's ID sessions and they'll prove their value. Or they won't. If they are unhappy and not talented, they'll figure it out. Also, drawing any conclusions about showcase game results in the preseason in the cold when no teams have really had many outdoor practices, etc. is silly. Whether your club was amazing or terrible. But on the flip side, it's not delusional to acknowledge throughout the season that there are a few powerhouse area teams in each age group (like BRYC's 16s) but that the rest of the teams could potentially play each other pretty evenly ON ANY GIVEN DAY depending on injuries, positions, who is on the field, what the coach's objective for the game is (e.g., my team is one of the best around and I'm going to play my striker at CB to teach her and accept the consequences). Good job to the teams that played tight games this past weekend. Pretty or not. Possession or not. No excuses needed for losing, no accolades needed for winning. It doesn't mean anything. That IS development -- getting out there and doing what you need to do to keep your team in the game regardless of the opponent or the talent or the PK shooting or any of the rest of it. |
Clearly you don't know any WSVA parents.. Very few, if any, have that specific attitude about results and development. We all recognize wins come with well-rounded player development, not at the expense of. If you were at that game, and more clearly understood what you were watching, you might not say dumb shit like that ^. |
| I was there and agree it was fairly one-sided in favor of VDA. My daughter plays for neither but is trying out for both in the coming weeks. That’s not an insult to WSVA, just what I saw. It makes sense. A top ECNL team against a new DA team developing an identity. I would be interested to see them again in mid season form. |
With these comments, after watching that game, I am surprised your daughter would want to play for either team. |

A WSVA parent posted that they had the two best 04 goalkeepers in the area. A WSVA parent also posted that WSVA has caught the ECNL clubs and Arlington DA and is in the conversation with FCV becasue results do not matter, except when they do. These statements are ridiculous on their face. And the people that posted them should not be surprised when they get a response. There are fine players at WSVA, but not enough. Why? It is not a secret what is happening at WSVA with the parental influence and over-rostering for money. Fix those two things and things will get much better. |
Do you have a reading comprehension problem? How do you equate that anonymous poster saying "2 04 keepers" with a lock on the top talent int the area? Not one poster has posted "WSVA caught up to ECNL", that's pretty rich though. I remember reading the Arlington DA discussion. All of today's WSVA discussion from WSVA has explicitly stated that Results don't matter. Even the "set off" comment did not say Results matter. It was a comment on the demonstration of play of a particular team that has been doing very well in ECNL. so 1 for 4? |
You are 100% correct. I LOL'ed when I read their post. Same crap, different toilet. |
U15 and older VDA are in 6th, 9th, 11th and 11th place in their ECNL Division. Pump the breaks. |
Huh? |
Here is one. This isn't delusional? What players at WSVA (with the exception of possibly 00-01 age group) would displace any FCV players let alone a dozen of them per team? The same applies to McLean, BRYC, VDA, Arlingtion, etc... There just is not the talent at WSVA that these posters keep talking about. |
And again, the WSVA parent opened this conversation and then they want to act surprised when people respond? Give me a break. |
Here is another. |
