Googled and found handful more teams dropped guidance this week of in summary play on age, playing up is an exception and alluding to the possibility of slight stickiness if Aug-Dec want to stay with their current teams.
Clubs are matching the ECNL views; playing up is an exception and a case by case basis but there could be an adjustment period to get teams to getting Aug-Dec playing on age. With nobody being forced to play up and playing up being a case by case situation, looks like this one is over. And in truth, it was always over. |
Yes, please stop TY! |
So your unsited research project told you exactly what you were expecting it to. Who could have guessed? Top teams where players are looking to get recruited and playing in college will be grouped by grade. |
Go ahead, try Google yourself. See if you find any team grouped by grade other than a girls team in the greater Racine area. I didn't. All the teams going age, allowing case by case to play up. Reminds me of the BY SY debate. Even after the announcements people still could face the music. It's over. |
Watch what happens. Clubs will group players on top teams by grade because it gives them the best chances at being recruited. Fight it all you want but committments are one of the main ways clubs, players, and parents define which clubs are the "best". |
You've lost complete credibility on your forecasting. Leagues didn't force players to play up and teams in the aggregate haven't forced players to play up. Now you have narrowed it down to saying top teams will be based on grade but that's going against what clubs are announcing and top teams shuffle the decks every year anyway. It's over. |
No Ive been 100% consistant saying that clubs will roster teams by grade because this is what college recruiters want. If players on lower level teams choose to play down and clubs allow it. Whatever it doesnt matter. |
Clubs getting best players on top teams, regardless of grade. It's over. |
Calm down littles we all know you're there. |
Wrong assumption, not surprising considering your power of prediction is nil. It's over. |
What does school grade have to do with soccer skill levels and competition? |
| my prediction is there will be a lot of exceptions year one, especially for the younger teams. Those teams that have a lot of exceptions will do less well than those clubs that permit fewer exceptions. Then in year two, the clubs will acknowledge that they gave too many exceptions and didn't do as well as they could have, and will give out a lot fewer exceptions. So, a 2-3 year transition process in my mind. |
True, just like the last time we did this switch. Though I disagree on the "especially for younger teams" part. Except at small clubs, younger teams will be strictly grouped by the new seasonal year with the same number of rare exceptions we see now. It is just easier to do. There will likely be more exceptions at older ages at smaller clubs but as noted, those will dissipate over the next 2-3 years. Just like the last time we did this. I even expect a few smallish clubs to just keep teams together and basically just continue BY, though again, that won't last long. |

Good FAQ by Rush Soccer (this is the parent site over all of their clubs across the country):
https://rushsoccer.com/age-group-change-resources/ Will my player be allowed to ``move up`` with their friends/teammates if they fall into the lower age group? We generally encourage players to participate within their designated age group to ensure appropriate development, competition balance and alignment with the new age group cutoff dates. However, we understand every circumstance is different. Requests for players to “play up” with an older age group will be reviewed on an individual basis and considered in collaboration with coaches and club leadership. I believe my player should be evaluated to ``play-up`` even though the new age group dates have them repeating an age group. Will this be allowed? Requests for players to “play up” will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. In general, all players should attend the first tryout with their designated age group based on the new calendar. Coaches and club leadership will review individual circumstances and communicate directly with players and families if a player is recommended to try out with an older age group. They're going to allow very few players to even tryout an age group up let alone play up. They have a shit ton of clubs this applies to. Notice that at no point do they talk about differences for older players or etc. It is what it is. |

Seems like Rush understand that if young Aug/Sept birthdays plan to get recruited and play in college that they need to "play up" with their grade. Thats a lot of words to address something that isnt a big deal.
Its like going into a tire shop at the end of summer and the salesperson keeps pushing you to the snow tire section. Sure they'll sell you anything you want but they're also trying to gently hint that with winter coming you would probably want to buy snow tires. |
