Republicans and the debt ceiling

Answer: China and Russia

So...why is the GOP hell bent on tanking the economy for basically no reason, to benefit China and Russia?

Or Biden is bent on destroying the economy to push his ideology.

Or, if Biden refuses to negotiate and make meaningful concessions, we will go over the fiscal cliff. That's the way i see it.

What meaningful concessions is McCarthy offering?

He's taken everything except discretionary spending off the table for starters.

How about we go back to the spending budget of 2018? He isn't even pushing that hard.

So he’s offered nothing then?

That is the offer.

There's a 1.5T spending cut bill on the table. If you don't like it, don't agree to it.

Don't care. Let's Thelma and Louise this.

So McCarthy is just threatening to crash the economy and hurt tens of millions of Americans unless he gets what he wants, and he won’t give up a single thing to get it. Got it.

Kinda sounds like Biden has the same position.

Wait until interest on the debt can't be paid. That will hurt America too. You seem to have no concept of reasonable government spending and want a womb to tomb welfare state. Well, the math says no.

Biden has offered a number of deficit reductions, including freezing spending for 2 years and making across the board cuts. McCarthy has rejected all of those concessions. The only one refusing to negotiate is McCarthy.

Compare our spending today to 2017-2018. It's almost double.

You want to freeze it at today's levels. Unacceptable.

You seem to be fine with the country creating billionaires and then having those same US Oligarchs not pay their fair share of taxes. Why are you that much of a sucker?

Let's start with the Bidens paying their taxes on all of those "transactions" run through nameless LLC's with other countries.

How do you know they haven't?

The President has shows ALL of his tax forms going back to the 1970's. Are you suggesting he has committed tax fraud?

Guess who never showed their tax forms.

the projection and gaslighting is astounding.

Then restore the pre-2017 tax rates too.

That's why they fired all the IRS employees investigating them.

He isn't pushing ideology. He is obligated to honor the faith and credit of the united states of america. Much of the debt was created by GOP tax cuts. Restore the levels of taxation and the problem is solved too. But you aren't willing.

You're just proving my point- republicans won't negotiate. They just want it their way without giving up anything at all. And they will shoot the american people in the head if they don't get it.

He certainly IS pushing an ideology. Every damn day. And it's a very unamerican one.

Wouldn't doubt it. The guy is lost, and his jv team values ideology over anything else.

His ideology? Lol if the radical republicans force a default Kevin will lose the speakership, 10-15 republicans house members will switch parties and Jeffries will be running the house. All the dems have to do is call your bluff.

But Congress, a duly elected representative body, already debated and decided on what programs expenses to keep. The time to debate the costs of government is during the budget negotiations--not now.

With a bunch of brainwashed people like you repeating whatever line they’re fed…

NP. Because of my job and the people with whom I regularly interact, the PP's statement is not incorrect, unfortunately.

The ignorance of right wing ideologues here is astounding.

The private sector needs a strong public sector to thrive - there are endless studies that have demonstrated that over decades.

Companies need healthy well educated employees.

Companies need reliable infrastructure, internet, and sound laws to operate well.

Not all societal functions/ public goods can be done well by the private sector - For example, prisons/ health care/ police/ promoting fair competition/
military/ environmental quality oversight.

We need strong public and private sectors.

Could not copy this Biden WH policy statement on public private partnerships but there is no pay wall.

One recent study but many more …
Cuts to local government spending, multimorbidity and health-related quality of life: A longitudinal ecological study in England
Jonathan Stokes et al. Lancet Reg Health Eur. 2022.

Interpretation: Fiscal austerity is associated with worse multimorbidity and health-related quality of life. Policymakers should consider the potential health consequences of local government expenditure cuts and knock-on effects for health systems.
Funding: Medical Research Council.
Keywords: Austerity; Health-related quality of life; Local government expenditure; Multimorbidity.
