I’m having company for July 4th, and they indicated that they would like potato salad on the menu. I don’t have time to make it. Which store bought potato salad is decent? If you know of a NoVA restaurant that has good potato salad that they sell by the quart, please share the name.
Thanks! |
| Is Red Hot & Blue still around? I really liked their potato salad when we lived in VA. |
Only Annapolis and Laurel, not sure about in Virginia. |
| Red Skin at CostCo is great. |
| I would just get a better side. Store-bought potato salad is food poisoning waiting to happen. |
| No one ever eats that stuff. Get a good one. Rack lands is decent. |
Really? even the pre-made kind like at Giant? Reese or whatever that brand is? Personally, I like making it. It's really not as laborious as it seems--Ina Garten has a great recipe for a tarragon potato salad. But, yeah if you don't have time to make it, go with another side. Pasta salad is so easy using pre-made dressing. |
Anything with mayo-based needs to be kept cold but I'd bet store-bought is much more resistant to food-poisoning because of added preservatives. |
| Store bought potato salad is one of the most disgusting foods on the planet |

We did a taste test a few years ago of all local potato salads (minus red hot and blue) and Costco won.
I suspect Red Hot and Blue is just as good or better. |

Do you mean Rockland's? Agree theirs is pretty good. However, I love any and all potato salad (yes, even the stuff from Giant) as long as it doesn't have a lot of celery in it. |
I'm begging you - read a book !! Get an education! Stop believing all the Old tales! KNOWLEDGE ARTICLE People often think mayonnaise is the cause of foodborne illness from chilled foods such as chicken, tuna and egg salad or when spread on bread with luncheon meats in a sandwich. However, because mayonnaise is made with acid (vinegar or lemon juice), it tends to prevent bacterial growth. Usually it's the meat, poultry, fish or eggs in a sandwich kept out of the refrigerator for more than two hours that is the medium for bacteria to grow. |
