Living a double life

Anonymous
If you were living a double life, and allowed to get away with it for years and years, would you? Would you pretend to be someone you are not? How far would you take it? Would you be willing to risk and involve your spouse, extended family and children, if needed? Would you act superior even though you are a fraud (would that be part of it)? Would you tell lies about other people to detract from your situation?

Curious about what makes people think that they fool other people, and to what extent they think they fool other people, especially if their family is involved. Also wondering how far people are willing to go.

To add, all this assuming appearances are important to you, and that your actions are based on that.

Hell no! That sounds mentally exhausting.

Wait. Isn’t this any person that operates with a .... double life?

Like something criminal?

Or like my dad who secretly started a second family while still married to my mom?

Can my double life have no family, no obligations but super wealthy and alone? I might be up for that

What the heck are you talking about? Care to give an example?

I barely have enough energy for the life that I have, so that's a no from me.

Interestingly though, my ex husband lived a double life. I always thought it was drinking/drug related but as I have a teenager recently diagnosed with mental health issues, I've come to decide that maybe he was bipolar manic living the double life for the thrill.

Nope. I'm a terrible liar. I would last about two days, then I would beg everyone for forgiveness, and ask my priest what type of penance I should do. Catholic guilt, at it's finest!

OP, it seems obvious you have a gripe with a specific person so just say what they did.

Same

It's mind boggling to me to know people that can live double lives (secret affairs) with zero shame, guilt and can lie so easily. To me, it seems sociopathic.

No that sounds exhausting and like it would eventually blow up. No way.

I led a double life for a while, professionally-speaking. After leaving the military, I went to a private sector job, and then another. While at the second job I was recruited by a govt agency that was interested in placing me in a third job as part of an official cover, with cooperation by the company. The official cover job offered me reason/plausible deniability to travel to the places I needed to be, and meet with people there. It sounds a lot more exciting than it was.
