I’m getting nervous about school because of delta

Agree. I think FCPS is going full bore with opening five days in person so that if/when the shit hits the fan and students and staff get sick in large numbers, they will have much less resistance when they send everyone virtual. No one will be able to say, "They didn't even try!" or claim there weren't many cases in their elementary schools when 20% of the class is out due to symptoms or exposure. I also suspect FCPS knows there's a reasonably large contingent of parents who will pull their kids if cases start showing up in schools. It's much better for this to happen after school starts because it's a lot easier from a staffing perspective to lose students after the first month than it is to gain students.

They'd still be teaching from the classroom. Last year we were told that virtual instruction does not mean teaching from home.

I doubt there will be many who sign it. All the teachers I know prefer to teach in person.

Same, and we are both teachers.

They don’t really have another choice.

Agree

It’s also better from a funding perspective. Don’t forget about the Sept 30 count. If they were to start virtual, a significant enough number of people would leave FCPS. If they wait until after 9/30 to change things up, FCPS doesn’t lose funds.

There is no conspiracy. They have to open by law. They want to open. Teachers want to open. If they close, it'll be a school, not district-based, decision. And then they'll open back up when things calm at that school. There is no secret plan to go virtual for the school year again. I know there are some probably harboring this fantasy, though...

And you have no idea how school is going to go in a masked, highly-vaccinated area. You're using anecdotes to make a prediction.

Exactly how is that following the science? You know the science also said? That our children learned way less because of distance learning and our poor populations were left even more behind.
