I’m getting nervous about school because of delta

Representatives from teacher associations in Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington and Manassas Park will host a news conference Monday urging a return to virtual-only learning.

In a statement Sunday evening, the Fairfax Education Association said it "stands with our colleagues from the Northern Virginia region to ask the Governor to return the Commonwealth to a full Phase II of the reopening plan and to recommend that our schools return to a fully virtual method of instruction ..."

The release said the involved education associations represent more than 12,000 school employees.

12,000 employees across 5 big districts = a HUGE minority of teachers in this area. They don’t speak for the vast majority of us that are fine with returning . They can resign their in person position and apply for the virtual option all of these counties are offering.

Right. 12,000 is not a large number considering FCPS alone has something like 24,000. How many of the 12,000 agree with every position FEA and other groups take?

Eh, I am a bit worried. I am thinking about getting another round of vaccines. I don’t think they keep a database of who got the shots, so I can just walk into a drug store and get them, no?

Oh, because of course we are returning to school. I can’t do online or concurrent anymore. I just can’t.

I don't think there will not be 5 days in person in the "fall." There will be, mostly b/c the bitc----- and whining from parents. I think there CAN be 5 days and hope there is but hope that unvaxxed are required to wear masks.

The news is the news. But, the facts are what they are and it is that the numbers are creeping up (here, as well, though thankfully not as much as other places). But, in some places they are running out of hospital beds and seeing numbers not seen since the winter. So, yeah, I'm concerned, as well. But, not concerned about "in person" school. That is happening.

Without being told to do so by a doctor? I’d be more worried about doing that.

I wouldn't be surprised if FCPS announces a virtual start a week before school starts especially if the 3 feet distancing continues to be a requirement. If that happens, we are considering a temporary move to an area of the country for a year where school were in-person since last September. There's no way, my children (or I) can handle another year of virtual or hybrid model.

They can’t! A law is in place!! We went in March, we can do it again.

They can’t do this. They are mandated to have in person school 5 days a week. The only thing they can do is require masks, testing, etc.

Correct.

Also, from the VDH and VDOE, 3’ is a recommendation not a requirement.

Why? It would just be a booster.

Is it recommended?

The vaccine already has a 95% efficacy rate. Unless they are now recommending booster shots, I think you're good.

No, but I am middle aged and I can’t afford to be sick. Breakthrough illnesses are happening and they aren’t always mild. Older people are getting boosters in Israel. If the country was short on vaccines, I wouldn’t consider it, but there are too many dummies in my community who aren’t going to get vaccinated and I feel like I need to overcompensate for them.

Well, I got it back in February and there is some news circulating that a booster might be a good idea… i just don’t want to wait until Fauci decides it would be politically expedient to recommend it.

I got my second Pfizer in February and I’m 50. I wouldn’t do it unless my doctor recommended it, but of course you can choose to do whatever you feel is best.
