[b]I think FCPS is going full bore with opening five days in person so that if/when the shit hits the fan and students and staff get sick in large numbers, they will have much less resistance when they send everyone virtual.[/b] No one will be able to say, "They didn't even try!" or claim there weren't many cases in their elementary schools when 20% of the class is out due to symptoms or exposure. I also suspect FCPS knows there's a reasonably large contingent of parents who will pull their kids if cases start showing up in schools. It's much better for this to happen after school starts because it's a lot easier from a staffing perspective to lose students after the first month than it is to gain students. [/quote]

It’s also better from a funding perspective. Don’t forget about the Sept 30 count. If they were to start virtual, a significant enough number of people would leave FCPS. If they wait until after 9/30 to change things up, FCPS doesn’t lose funds. [/quote]
