DP. Look, he was dumb enough to take a gun, not check (verbally with the armorer or visually by checking his own darn self) if the gun was loaded, point it in the direction of a group of people and fire it. He is still ultimately responsible. And I admit that I think he is a complete jerk (yes, I know him). But he is even more dumb than I would have thought possible with this latest act. It is really sad that his hubris and his inability to follow even basic rules (do not point a gun at anyone and don't fire it if you aren't 100% sure it is empty) caused this young woman to die. He deserves to be brought up on criminal charges and he should pay for his actions. Other people as well, but he should be at the head of the 'you're going to jail' pack.

He did check in verbally. He was told explicitly that there were no bullets or blanks in the gun.

He checked with the AD, who is NOT the armorer. He did NOT check with the person he should have check with. It doesn't matter if he asked the AD, the AD was not the person responsible for managing the guns. Alec Baldwin is WRONG because he did NOT check with the right person. Although it does prove just how dumb he was - that he didn't even think that he wasn't asking the right person. His stupidity caused the death of that young woman. He deserves to be held accountable for that.

That's ... nonsense. Strongly worded nonsense.

You aren't refuting anything the pp said. If you object to the points made, can you clearly state your objections? This isn't Twitter.

I'm not going to try to refute that. What good would that do?

No, they didn't leave because of reckless gun use.

News reports that a lack of gun safety was cited in a written resignation letter. Do you have information that disproves this?

Crickets. But these perps will not be held accountable. Just watch.

Perps? If you mean me, I don't remember seeing that. I may be wrong, but I didn't remember that as being the reason they left.

Then maybe don't respond with hostile or offensive statements. The person is engaging in a discussion with everyone on this thread and doesn't need to be put down just because you disagree with their points.

Dp- that poster isn’t engaging in a discussion. They have an axe to grind against AB. It’s getting tedious.

No, the individual who pulled the trigger of a loaded pistol and killed an innocent woman is the perp.

I wouldn't be so sure. You don't know what other people think beyond what they post. I think reasonable people can disagree to what extent Alec is responsible. Even the DA said it's too early to say they will charge him--or that they won't. A totally unbiased view would be to say that there isn't enough information to either implicate him or absolve him of any responsibility. But obviously people posting here are speculating and that's okay. It's an interesting subject.

Interesting article and comments. Not very clear though. Lots of opacity and deniability. And problems for small independent films.

Are you even serious? This is not how you check the gun. Baldwin have always been dumb based on his previous actions, but one would assume that he had a little common sense. Apparently not. I hope they will charge him criminally and the dude will finally learn the lesson.

Apparently, Baldwin is now in Vermont clothes shopping.

If someone has been using smoke bombs as part of their job, and someone hands them something and says it's a smoke bomb, but it's actually a grenade, then who is the dumb one?

Do you know think your name-dropping ("I know Alec Baldwin") makes you sound smart?

PP wrote "he did not check verbally". I corrected them. How am I the one who is not serious here?

No, they didn't leave because of reckless gun use.

Just go back and find the link where they listed the reasons why they left. Lack of gun safety was actually one of their many reasons for quitting. Another reason was sleep deprivation. Alec Baldwin failed to address any one of the problems.

That wasn’t AB’s job.

No, but his job WAS to ensure that the equipment he used was being managed appropriately. Taking a gun from someone who should not have been handling it WAS Alec Baldwin's job. Not verifying with the armorer that the gun was unloaded and empty WAS Alec Baldwin's job as soon as he decided to take possession of it. He caused that woman's death because of his failure to follow the protocols.

Except that the AD's job is to oversee all safety on the set, and to supervise the armorer. An explicit part of that is to be the person to double check each weapon after the armorer does. So, asking the AD makes as much or more sense than asking the armorer.
