Several states cancel unemployment benefits boost

This is despite Congress extending them through September. Just so people are aware -

South Caroline and Montana are ending the unemployment boost in June 2021. Tennessee is looking to join them.

There are so many jobs available, and they won’t be filled when sitting home collecting unemployment is an option.

We can see how this is going to go easily - just like the states which urged opened up in Summer 2020 were all red, the states which will cancel these benefits in Summer 2021 will also be red.

I think DeSantis will be announcing ASAP - surprised he hasn't already.

Its 3 states (Arkansas, Montana, South Carolina) and 1 pending - Tennessee.

It’s news because I saw individuals encouraging a fired remote worker to apply for UI for the ‘boost’. Well, if you’re remote from a red state and file taxes there - you’re screwed. People need to pay attention.

Would you rather pay people upwards of $18 an hour in some states to stay home and do nothing? With these high unemployment benefit rates, no wonder people don’t want to work.

My cousin is making more money sitting at home (from federal and state benefits) than if she got off the couch and reported to work each day. There's no incentive.

She, and I'm assuming thousands of others, are in the same boat, hence the countless job opportunities and employers scrambling to fill jobs especially as "normal" (and seasonal) jobs are insight.

And she's vax'd so she really has no excuse.

Why do you think that reflects poorly on her, rather than the low wage employer's taking advantage of people? She did the math and made the smart choice. The one time the system shakes out to advantage workers, psychos like you are chomping at the bit to see them relegated back to serfdom.

There are a lot of jobs available. When you can stay at home and get X an hour- is it worth it to go back for only X +$5 more an hour? We do have vaccines now and it’s not like it was last year. I think a lot of people are reluctant to return to normal but that’s what is needed.
