It's literally the tax dollars of people who lost their jobs.

Does it make you feel any better to know that more children will be starving July 4? Happy birthday, America.

People with children are the ones who less standing to complain - they're getting the $300/pc payments starting in July.

Yup, in states such as Virginia, a lot of people will earn the full state unemployment benefit, $300 in federal supplemental unemployment, and $300 per child in subsidies. I imagine that some of these people have popped out 10+ children. That's over $3,000 per month, for some people, just to take care of their children. If that's not mooching, I don't know what is.

The child tax credit is temporary and I honestly believe it should stay that way. I am not for paying Brode Miller and his wife who are on baby #8 - $2,400/mo to breed. Neither of them have jobs. They shouldn't be able to live off having kids.

I seriously doubt many people have 10+ kids. The average household receiving welfare has just one kid. And if someone did have 10 kids, they probably are paying over $3000 a month just for housing.

We’re a middle class family and will get the credit for two kids. As will millions of other Americans. We also use the public schools. People like us get a lot of freebies from taxpayers without anyone questioning it.

It's temporary for now, but you can be sure that Democrats will do their utmost to make it permanent.

Oh, we question it - its just no one cares. I'm thankful everyday I don't live in Europe/UK with their crazy tax rates and free year-long government funded paid leave and daycare as well. If you want to have kids fine - a basic education is a universal human right. But I'm not paying people to vacation with them.

For Marylanders, does this end unemployment in total or just the boost? Have been unemployed since 2020 and was on the extended PUA program until Sept.

Total.

This ends all programs except basic unemployment of 26 weeks from the state.

If you are on PUA, FPUC, MEUC, or PEUC it is canceled effective July 3rd.

If you have been on unemployment longer than 26 weeks (total), it is canceled effective July 3rd.

If you qualify for unemployment based on Covid, lack of childcare, pandemic emergency, it is canceled effective July 3rd.

If you have been on unemployment for less than 26 weeks, which basically means you started your claim in 2021, you will still be able to claim your full pay minus the $300/wk boost until the conclusion of your original claim.

This is false. The programs continue until 9/4/2021. Nothing is canceled in 30 days. Why lie?

Ugh. Was to run through Sept. This is a very unwelcome surprise. Why would they do this with school being out? Makes no sense but....thanks for the clarification!

Unemployment is intended to be a safety net, not a career choice. You have plenty of time to find a job. Fortunately, many positions pay the magic $15 per hour wage.

Don't infer that I'm lying when you're too lazy to keep up with the facts.

Dear Unemployment Claimant:

Governor Larry Hogan today announced that Maryland will be discontinuing the following temporary federal unemployment insurance programs on Saturday, July 3, 2021:

I’m not lazy. The state of Maryland didn’t update the page wiry an announcement which is where claimants will look, not DCUM, not a newspaper. They will go to the agency webpage — where rhwre is NOTHING about this significant change.

Don’t infer I’m lazy because your link didn’t come up in my DDG search.

Anyway, I acknowledged my error and an attitude to validate or provide linked source info like this is warranted and standard here.
