I don’t know any person doing that so it says volumes about your social circle and the kind of people you attract.

Maybe you should stop playing Xbox 24/7 and get out more, preferably to find a job. Get a part time job initially, as full time work may be too exhausting for you, given that you’ve spent more than a year on the couch.

You seem to have too much time on your hands. Maybe take your own advice about finding a decent job.

(CNN)Once she became fully vaccinated in April, Lindsey Bates wanted to get back to work. A restaurant server with more than 20 years of experience, she figured she wouldn't have trouble finding a position since hospitality workers are in high demand and she had never been unemployed before.

That hasn't been the case. Though the Orlando, Florida, resident has been applying to at least five jobs every day on Indeed and Facebook Marketplace, she has yet to even be called in for an interview.

The hours are very unpredictable. You could work 40 hours this week, but get cut to 10 hours next week. Unemployment is much more stable. It’s also a beast to get into the unemployment system. My mom was laid off from her hotel job in Southern California and it took her two months to finally get unemployment funds. She lived off savings until she could get the money from the state. Further, her unemployment automatically expired at the end of March 2021 (it’s good for you one year) and her renewal application with the state has been canceled twice. It’s so much easier to just remain in the system and get a consistent benefits check.

Laid off Employees are being 100% rational right now. So many business owners are sketchy about pay, benefits, and hours right now. They will promise stability and cut down your hours without warning. And if you even get paid for 5 hours, you don’t qualify for unemployment.

Sorry, but most business owners are acting shady.

“Most business owners are acting shady?” Pure speculation on your part. And rationalization.

Maybe those on unemployment are acting rationally. Which is why the unemployment boost needs to be ended. So the “rational” choice is to go back and work.

My brother works for Trader Joe's. His hours each week are all over the place. He desperately wants 40+ hours a week as ge has a family, and has asked for morning hours so he can be home with his kids and was told they could accommodate him. He was on unemployment which took him over 4 months of calling multiple people to try and collect and let them know he accepted a new job. Guess what? He gets between 20-35 hours a week and is constantly scheduled for evening work causing him to pay a sitter to watch his kids when they are back from school. He wishes he stayed on unemployment.

And I thought TJ was considered a good employer? Imagine KFC…

I don’t know about KFC, but a relative works for a big name discount dept store and they have the same experience. In their case, it also keeps them from taking on a second job, which the family needs. As a result, both parents are driving Uber and Instacart or DoorDash all hours. It’s exploitation. People do not control their own labor if that is how most hourly jobs operate. They are at the mercy of the employer.

Hogan made the right call. With the labor shortage, most people will have no problem finding a job by July 3.

No one should still need unemployment benefits. Welcome back to reality.

This. Vaccines are available. No worries xcuse fir an adult to get out and find a job. May not be their first choice, but time to re enter the world.

+2

My cousin is making more money sitting at home (from federal and state benefits) than if she got off the couch and reported to work each day. There's no incentive.

She, and I'm assuming thousands of others, are in the same boat, hence the countless job opportunities and employers scrambling to fill jobs especially as "normal" (and seasonal) jobs are insight.

And she's vax'd so she really has no excuse.

Why do you think that reflects poorly on her, rather than the low wage employer's taking advantage of people? She did the math and made the smart choice. The one time the system shakes out to advantage workers, psychos like you are chomping at the bit to see them relegated back to serfdom.

Red states are actually not thinking it through as a they are often apt to do. They essentially are forgoing a financial boost from feds in return for political posturing.

Yes, that’s how most jobs work.

I mean the same thing happened in 2020 when they turned down federal covid relief to re-open early. I'm beginning to think they just don't care.
