100% DPR facility. I actually hope Hearst School, particularly the aftercare, has a little priority there.

DPR’s budget is like 48 million. DCPS is about 1.5 billion. DCPS should be helping out DPR not the other way around.

Apples and oranges. DCPS has a vast payroll and lots of complex buildings. DPR has, at core, space with some recreational equipment stuck on it.

and... Maret has a budget of almost 30 million. Compensation for the head of school around 600 thousand. Endowment 20+ million.

Let’s sum up your position. No Maret can not have exclusive use right of Jellef because my kid does not go to Maret. My kid goes to Hardy so Hardy should exclusive use right to Jellef. I know the property is not part of the school system but that does not matter. All DC Government resources are there for my private use. I want what I want! Screw everyone else!
Literally no one is arguing that Hardy should get exclusive use of Jellef.

You're either a liar, ignorant, or a paid PR flack.

Which one is it?

Right. some of the same crazy people on this thread probably started the thread over in private schools. Likely 5 people with nothing but time on their hands.

LOL! I love when people try to dismiss the obvious. You think climate change is just a hoax too, right?

+1 They can't defend Maret's selfish behavior, so they make vague unfounded criticisms of those who are trying to make DC government work better for its citizens.

I think very few people believe or agree that Hardy or any other DCPS school should have exclusive rights to Jelleff Field but I sure as hell know that a private school like Maret should not. The 100+ aftercare children at Jelleff each school day should absolutely have access to outdoor space. Maret boosters just continue to pick side fights to try and distract from the real issue of how they participated in a corrupt system.

+1. There’s some Maret Pr folks on this thread that try to argue that Hardy is trying for exclusive access when in fact 9 schools and the boys and girls club were al hoping to get (partial) access once the deal ended.

The other possibility is that the poster is a bot. I for one have a hard time believing that any real person could be so obtuse.

Whoever has the Maret PR contract is raking it in: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/dcs-maret-school-releases-investigation-detailing-past-cases-of-sexual-abuse-at-the-private-school/2019/09/19/faf5ec21-826d-4873-8037-3008ec19b14e_story.html

This is not good for Jelleff as it distracts from it and thereby reduces pressure on their admin to walk away from the deal.

Not sure how it reduces the pressure. Many schools are facing similar issues.

Jelleff was an agenda topic at the Hardy PTO meeting last night which was very well attended. The vast majority of people in attendance were aware of the situation and care very much. When four different school sport teams have to share the same small green space at Hardy (which isn't even big enough for one regulation size game of soccer, for instance) and a group of 20 kids from Maret are holding court across the street at Jelleff, it illustrates how unfair and outrageous the situation is. It's a gorgeous day. I think I'll head over there now and see if I can snap some good photos. With any luck the aftercare kids will be standing on the non-field side of the fence while the Maret kids run to their heart's content on the gigantic field. A picture is worth a 1000 words, they say.

And send to each city council member and the mayor.

Can one of you please organize a protest or other action? My kid doesn't attend Hardy, but we care about this as our ES feeds Hardy. We will come out to whatever is organized.

This post saddens me. I could only imagine. As the saying goes "You can't sit with us".

Do you happen to know if Hardy has been able to use the field on Wednesdays as promised? I know the first Wednesday they couldn't.

Do you know where Hardy teams play and practice now? Takoma Recreation Center. Banneker Recreation Center. Randolph Recreation Center. Do you know what all of those Recreation Centers have in common? They're all run by DPR. There's no question whether DCPS kids can use DPR rec centers, the question is whether kids at Hardy can use the one that happens to be across the street from their school instead of having to take Metro to ones halfway across the city.

I'd like to find out what the deal is with Guy Mason Rec Center, which is just a few blocks up Wisconsin from Jelleff.

The DPR-DCPS distinction is a complete red herring.

But most of the Hardy kids actually live closer to the rec centers you named. So it’s actually more convenient for them to get home afterwards.

That is completely not true. How ridiculous!

Huh? The school is 73% OOB. It’s kinda actually true...
