In fact, they might rethink all of their political activism. Other churches should do the same. It's fine to have moral positions, but this kind of activism is not in the interest of the either the church or the government. Maybe they are starting to get it.

Area poster here. Yes, this is why I refuse to send my kid to Catholic HS, especially around here. They already had my grade schooler praying the rosary for life at school last week - totally not cool IMO since he is very young amnd rightfully has no opinions - informed or otherwise - on reproductive issues. Nor does the school teach a consistent life ethic curriculum. I have to do that at home and will be keeping my kid home from now on when they do these kind of politically minded stunts during school hours.

So you send your kid to Catholic school and are surprised the schools are pro life?

Of course not. I am not stupid, thank you very much. But I object to have 5yo pray the rosary over abortion. Teaching the theology does not equal political indoctrination of kids at this age. We deal with it at home, where it belongs.

What's preached at school is practiced at home. If you send your child to a Catholic school, expect your child to be "groomed." It's not political indoctrination in their eyes; it's a belief that life begins in the womb.

That's what public schools are for - the masses.

-former Catholic with a Catholic school education - While I may not agree with the church, it's a person's right to pay for a Catholic education and it's a school's right to also preach and put into practice the doctrine.

So disgusting that a RELIGION is grooming and exploiting kids for political purposes.

this b/c you can't read

Or you're being obnoxious.

What’s confusing? Catholics are systematically exploiting kids for political positions.

I'm not the one who's confused. I can clearly see how a religious doctrine would shape one's views. If you RAISE a child in a faith, you practice what is preached. Any religion is a BELIEF system. Abortion goes against God's will b/c an unborn baby has a soul, according to Catholicism; therefore, this belief is taught to the children. So these children share their belief - passed down to them by family, friends, schools, etc. - in a vocal manner by protesting.

In their eyes they are NOT being exploited.

I'm not religious; I've mentioned that upthread.

Are you religious, PP? b/c if you are and if you bring your children to services, you're clearly exploiting your children, right? You're filling their heads with beliefs that can indeed be political: no premarital sex, anti-homosexuality, anti-abortion. And let's not forget the "lesser" beliefs: anti-pork, no meat on Fridays, Halal, Kosher, yada yada yada.

I've said this before - that there will never be separation btw church and state until all religious beliefs disappear, as beliefs shape our views and dictate how we live our lives.

I think the Black Israelite behavior was very offensive and the behavior of the Elder questionable. But please don't tell me you are comparing the injustice inflicted upon Irish-Americans to the injustice inflicted upon African-Americans or Native-Americans.

Not at all - I am just pointing out that everyone in some way are discriminated against. The mob mentality on this young man is atrocious!

Funny you would bring up the mob mentality, when it's exactly what those kids displayed.

you still have not watched the videos or heard the accounts apparently. These kids didn't "mob" anybody. They huddled up to drown out offensive abuse they were receiving from cult members and then this Phillips guy walked right into the middle of their huddle to confront them and bang his drum, for no sensible reason.

Yes, this totally looks like what you're saying.

Those kids look pretty intimidated and prayerful, for sure.

No tomahawk motions. You are lying because that’s all you have. There’s no video of the kids swearing, being racist, or anything negative or bigoted.

There’s plenty of video of both the black and Indian men being bigoted, cursing, etc.

The tomahawk chop is not apparent except in the dark corners of you mind.

Why can't everyone be wrong in this case?

the Catholic boys for being rude, rowdy and racist
the Black Hebrew Israelites for being a hate group
the Native American drummer for taking sides and annoying the entitled Catholic school boys

They're all annoying in my eyes.

No video evidence of a tomahawk chop dum dum.

Just liberals desperate to find anything remotely racist. No build the wall chants, either. Only black men sluring gays and native men sluring kids and using their crappy lives to attack children.

My daughter, who's 15, found that amusing. In what world is a little Native American man with a drum threatening?

He's scary and brown. Different. Probably diseased. Maybe from the Caravan. Build the Wall. MAGA.

(That's sarcasm -- but Poe's Law means that some folks might think that was serious.)

Can you imagine if a Catholic priest got up in a kid like Phillips did and thumped his Bible into the kid’s face?

He’d be arrested for assault.

Where I’m from that’s called “Sunday”.

So........don’t get an abortion. Encourage your kids not to get an abortion.

BUT DON’T PUSH YOUR BELIEFS ON OTHERS.

Don’t insert yourself into other womens’ uteruses.
Mind your own uterus.

“March for Life” is a tool for pushing your political agenda. Disgusting that you include your CHILDREN in political manipulation.

I think the boys were being punks, I'm ambivalent about the Native American drummer, and I think the Black Israelites are jerks.

All that said, the facts of this matter are almost beside the point. It's clearly a vessel for everyone to put their biases into and use to club the other side over the head with. Ironically, if the interaction had more substance to it, it would get less attention because that would interfere with our ability to project our emotions onto it and use it for a proxy war with the Other Side.

You state that as if it were fact.
The truth is that you don't know if he was praying or not. In fact, when praying silently, the only one who really knows is the person praying. And, God, of course.

Someone who calls people “dum dum” and misspells slurring on an anonymous forum isn’t the most reliable source of info.

None of us are genius. Were you present? I wasn’t. None of us has first hand knowledge.

Video doesn’t lie. No boy was caught on video doing anything racist or bigoted like the black and native men were.
