This isn’t true. She’s a VERY good friend of his

From her campaign, Rebecca Smondrowski lives in Olney. Farquhar Middle School is in Olney. I’m not surprised that they would be acquaintances.

She lives in Gaithersburg 😳

Does anyone find it odd that a young black male is so friendly with often times middle aged white women? I would say this is a classic case of an opportunist and it’s not normal.

I find it odd that you’re commenting on it. What it is, it’s a sideshow. The real issue is MCPS’s failure to follow its policies and protect staff and students from a predator.

Another real issue is the MCPS culture of inappropriate relationships within leadership. They aren’t protecting staff because they too are participating in these type of behaviors. I agree with the poster that Beidleman chose his prey of middle aged white women. The question is why these women didn’t speak up sooner and go through the proper channels.

I know, right? They should know their place!

Because he started the grooming process with belittling teachers and asserting his power. Anytime a teacher used the proper channels for ANyTHING (even filling out a PO) he and his enablers would scold and harass us, reminding us “MCPS would like us to do it that way, but we do it differently at Farquhar” or even going as far to say “we can do whatever we want, Beidleman can do whatever he wants. CO just gives us recommendations but we can do whatever we want”. If that is getting yelled to your face in mixed company, would you have any trust in the system? No! You would just do your best to try to get out of that environment as fast as you can.

Also, MCPS was over the top about how they had declared him the golden child years ago. We knew he had “friends” in high places. He also made sure we were isolated and afraid enough not to compare stories. By the time it became a collective conversation we were all under the impression that Khalid Walker would do his job, not be a best friend to his buddy.

The Safe Schools Maryland tip line is not a proper channel? The MCEA is not a proper channel? The teachers complained to the MCEA and the MCEA, as evidenced by their email, got a response from an official in MCPS's labor division. The victims did what they were supposed to do. This is not on them. It's on the system that either protected Beidleman or is so broken and incompetent that it can't do what it was set up to do.

She came up through this system so your statement is a pretty big indictment of her. She knew the culture was broken and did nothing to fix it.

She knew nothing of the sort. This whole incident is a surprise to most of us.

You seem awfully confident in the Superintendent’s knowledge and the CO’s mindset.

And you seem confident in all this unproven gossip. I want real proof. I'm not comfortable convicting people without evidence.

Nobody is "convicting" McKnight of anything. We've simply lost confidence in her as a leader. We don't have the power to oust her, so lucky her, she will probably keep her job. She is not remotely a victim here. She is being protected.

It's hard for me to believe you ever had confidence since this has been going on long before now, and the same people just look for an excuse to find fault. I mean were so busy convicting McKnight I can't even remember what it was that Biedleman did.

NP. I am in the same camp as PP. I used to think everyone criticizing her here was the result of power jockeying and politics, and, honestly, it probably mostly was. But, after seeing this play out in the Post, I don't know how she can continue. Clearly, from her high level positions before her tenure, she would have had information on this behavior. This whole scandal reflects poorly on everyone at a high level of MCPS leadership. I always thought the "clear house" contingent was rabble rousers or the nutty Dawn people. But, this leadership clearly enabled a predator. And rewarded him. It valued cronyism over the well being of students and teachers. There needs to be real accountability. McKnight 's lip service is nowhere near enough.

Agree but the whole nutty Dawn contingent is using this to push their agenda. Notice how they are more focused on McKnight than Beadleman who is the accused party or the prior supers who allowed this to go on for years. They're just out for her because that was always their goal. Now that doesn't mean I'm thrilled about this either but hard to take them seriously because they're anything but objective.

I can’t stand Dawn but I am more focused on the organizational problems because that’s more important than one creep. Beidleman should be dismissed if even only a handful of the allegations are true. But there also need to be a lot of dismissals from the senior leadership ranks and some big changes to the systems that failed. As the head of the school system, the Superintendent owns all of those systems.

Dawn pretending to care about teachers is the funniest thing out of this sad mess. She only cares about furthering her agenda against the BOE because she's a sore loser and rightfully lost. She doesn't care about Beidleman or this entire thing. She just cares she gets to be gleeful the board she wasn't elected to messed up.

Agree those people are nuts and are out to find fault regardless of the truth, and it's true this all went on during prior administration. However, a lot of your statements aren't factual. We don't know to what extent this administration had knowledge of this. Let's not judge until the facts are known. Also, it should be clear these people could care less about any of this because they're so hyperfocused on McKnight and aren't interested in Biedleman or what may have gone on.

You may be right since even this thread isn't focused on what went wrong but trying to smear McKnight and the BOE.

Being a golden child is a rumor. I think the Farquhar staff was warped into believing he was anything more than a middle school principal that knew how to work the crowd. He won no awards whatsoever while being a principal so in what way is that a golden child? He was in the same middle school for 8 years without advancing to the next level.
