I’m with you. I feel so bad for them. They seem like really good people. I hope their community will give them some grace rather than being upset with them for Carlee’s actions.

Now about the internet! Whew. The rumors were all true! Just crazy!

Agree. I do think it was dumb for them to go to the media and continue the cray cray, but I still feel bad for them.

Same.

+1 they reacted the way most parents would. Carlee probably stuck to her story and they wanted to defend her. I don’t agree with the decision to do that on national television but I understand their intentions.

I hope they encourage Carlee to speak honestly with police and apologize to the public. She made a very stupid mistake but we’ll all forget about this soon enough.

I'm wondering if her other searches they're not revealing were suicidal. The woman f'd up, but she needs help.

I understand I’m from not the south and it’s generally a whole other universe to me, but I don’t believe they could’ve handled this clear fabrication any better. Especially as family and friends still continue to lie to media and the public. It would’ve been so much easier to make a statement thanking LE and everyone who came out and supported them and now that Carlee is home, the family is going to take some time and require privacy to do so. It would’ve even been reasonable to say school pressure is tough and sometimes people need a break etc etc. But between the fighting physically yet somehow having the foresight to grab her Target snacks, this girl is a real nutcase.

Are you such a snob that you expect Hoover/Alabama LE to be stupid? Check yourself.

I completely agree with the pp you're replying to... they were being complimentary, they weren't deriding them.

Most bigger LE agencies in major cities would've exposed her immediately and made her lies a spectacle by now.

They'd be afraid that the public would think they're rubes for initially falling for the hoax, so they would've rushed to expose her just as soon as they realized it... all to save face.

These cops seem to be leading with empathy, grace, patience and compassion... and isn't that EXACTLY what people wanted when they were saying to defund the police?

LE agencies around the country should take a note from this one.

You are pretending that the current political climate does not make public employees walk on eggshells when a minority group member and the media are involved.

The same LE that exposed Sherri Pappini would've done the same to her.

I agree a sufficiently contrite public apology would be helpful. They’re probably consulting a lawyer as we speak.

I screamed at that special detail, OH MY GOD. The woman is an *idiot*.

Well her life is ruined, and it will be challenging for her loved ones to forgive her. I hope that’s sufficient deterrence!

No, I think there should be criminal charges. I don't necessarily think she needs a harsh punishment, but a conviction ensures that these actions follow her. Would you want someone like, with so little regard for truth, this caring for your child or your parents? A conviction would come up on employment and licensing background checks, ensuring that this episode will be known and considered before she can be put in a position of trust.

Yes, this makes sense. I find it all pretty sad.

There has to be some punishment. Not jail time but court ordered psychiatric care or a fine. This case involved many LE and used lots of resources. I’m sure it drew attention away from other active cases. It also has to be a deterrent that this is not acceptable.

The guy with an orange hair??? That is funny. How do they come up with that stuff? I thought you cannot do better than “four white frat boys in Hawaiian shirts” who tried to burn a black girl on fire in Atlanta, but this take the cake. Orange and bold in the middle. LOL

My mom likes to remind me that when she was 25, my dad was the dean of a phd program, and my mom would host the 15+ phd students and their SOs to a full seated meal at our home.

Why would she like to remind you of that? Bizarre.

Classic DCUM. Stick to the topic and stop debating someone’s comment.

Pulling something like this is something I fantasized about when I was at rock bottom with my mental illness desperate to get back with an ex. Thank god I had a tiny bit of sense left, enough not to humiliate myself like this.

I'm really curious what could have caused it. Was her family or boyfriend controlling or abusive?

The supposed "boyfriend" had been cheating and is actually an EXboyfriend.

Supposedly, he was talking to both women and was leaning toward staying with the new girl and dumping Carlee permanently.

This, of course, made him come running back into her arms STAT.

Pro-tip: if escaping to start a new life, consider not calling the police on yourself

I don’t know what the other searches are but something tells me that they are far more embarrassing than even this hoax. They were extremely kind not to share but considering all the private details that were already shared from a leak, I don’t think this will be private for long. I will have to say a prayer for her because this public ridicule….I don't think she’s built for it. There are already skits and Memes circulating.
