Brother in law and His girlfriend proclaim DH’s family racist this on social media.

Anonymous
My BIL and his girlfriend (more like common law wife as they’ve been together for 15 years) have refused to speak with my husband’s family (his dad, my DH, my sister in law) most recently because they believe them all to be racist and unwilling to accept the girlfriend or the pain she’s experiencing right now. She has posted that my husbands family is violent hateful and many untrue and horrible accusations, honestly none of which are true. This all started from a text chain in November where I showed a picture of husband and me in tiger kind outfits. She wrote it was racist and I was silent and then we left the chat after several family members said they needed to calm down. Now I’m not sure what to do?

You wore a tiger costume and she said it was racist?

Something doesn’t add up. I have a feeling you’re leaving a lot out, OP.

Were you going as a tiger mom and dad?

This would be kind of racist. At the very least, a microaggression. Assuming ya'll are white?

That's what I thought, too, and I don't get how that's racist. The characters in that documentary are white, and they are clearly identifiable people. It's not like dressing up like some ethnic stereotype (a geisha, a gangster, etc.). It's dressing up like a famous couple.

It may have been a group text but if her original message was to/about you, and then you were silent, I think you owe her some kind of response. You let the rest of the family take over the discussion and it blew up from there. I would worry about your and your DH's relationship with BIL and wife before worrying about everybody else.

The only way I can see racism here (and even this is a stretch) is if GF didn't recognize the characters and thought OP was doing a "white trash" costume.

You are racist op, and ignorant about being racist. Just bcs you don't think you are racist, doesn't mean you are not.

Joe Exotic used strong racist language while filming the doc. It was cut out. He is a racist. You dressed up as a racist.
