I received a new reopening survey from Deal today. In addition to the expected question about whether I want to send my child for in person school, it also asks about my opinion on the school's Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Initiative. Did any other DCPS schools ask about this? This seemed out of left field but maybe I'm not making the connection. The following is a required question for the survey:
The Deal Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Initiative was created during the summer of 2020 to support Deal families in addressing issues of race, class, and diversity. Please share your level of interest/commitment to participating in the efforts of the Deal ABAR Initiative. * Not interested Moderately interested Very interested |
| I don’t understand why this question is required on a form meant to address IPL. |
| I thought it was left field too and then tried to figure out why it was included in a survey about returning to in person learning. Two birds one stone I guess. |
| LOL they are going to see if your support for anti-racism correlates with your interest in remaining DL. |
|
This is such a laughably bad survey, given how politicized reopening is around racial justice questions.
Does DCPS just find the worst survey designers? Do they have no money to do this? |
What’s the association? |
Uh it’s a feature not a bug... |
| I think they thought the IPL would get responses but the anti -racism would not. |
Obviously only racists want IPL. |
For whom? |
I think the most vocal IPL parents are the least open to anti-racism. |
This. Rather than send out two surveys, they send out one, thinking it will increase the response rate. |
| Better answer the right way, otherwise no IPL for you! |
Yes, I agree. It’s to maximize participation |
Whether that is true or not, it is atrocious survey design to ask about anti-racist initiatives on a survey specifically designed to assess interest in IPL. |
