I've been tracking my meals and exercising more the past month and a half and as of today, I've officially lost....nothing! I'm a healthy eater but this feels so much like hormones (I'm female, 45 years old). I'm on BCP, which hasn't added any weight but has made my chest and hips feel bigger - clothes aren't fitting the same. Guess I'm just posting because I'm frustrated and welcome any ideas. Thanks.

| How many calories are you eating and what does your activity look like? If there is no change you are not in a deficit, it is as simple as that. It does not matter whether you are 10 years or 100 years old. The same formula applies. |
| Same. Blah. I've been telling myself that's exercise and good food lead to overall health. For most of my life I've been thin and unhealthy (not strong, not flexible, not great labs). Now I'm at the higher end of a healthy BMI and not super healthy. It's just hard to motivate for a fairly vague goal. |
1300-1500 calories and 2+ mile fast walks 3x a week and hard power yoga 3x a week. |
| Same I’ve crept up from 118-120-125-130.5. For the past two weeks I’ve been eating really well and exercising. I’m 45 and have never had to exercise before. I’m 5’7”. I lost absolutely nothing. |
OP here -- oh my gosh, I'm almost the exact weight/height profile and had the same increase. ugh! |

you are not exercising at a level high enough to burn fat. it is good you are doing something but your intensity isn't enough to make a change.
Time yourself for your walk. the average walk per mile is 20 minutes so if you are walking for 40 minutes you are walking at a normal pace which is fine, you are doing something. Each time try to decrease the time and increase the distance. Say Monday 2 mile walk 40 minutes Wednesday 2 miles walk 39 minutes Friday 2 mile walk 38 minutes Monday 2.25 mile walk 40 minutes etc etc FIT Frequency intensity and time. keep it going |
| Oh id love to be back to 135 from 150 post baby weoght. |
I'm seven inches shorter and have had a similar increase, if it makes you feel any better. Getting older is no joke. I eat pretty well, exercise a lot, and this is how it is, I think. I feel pretty comfortable under 125 anymore, so - as I sit here eating my beans and cheese for lunch - I hope a few modest dietary changes can get me back there. |
Ha - I also came to say the same - seven inches shorter and similar weight increase. I'd be really happy at 120, but wine. |
Those are some really slow walks. And btw. you do not need to exercise at all to lose fat. You would have to eat very little, but you would still be able to lose if you eat less than you burn. |
How consistency are you hitting this calorie range? At least 6 days a week? Are you weighing everything you eat? Are you eating more on the weekends? The less weight you have to lose the more diligent you have to be. How badly do you want to lose this weight? How much are you willing to sacrifice? How much will your life really change when you lose 5 lbs? |
Be thankful you never had to exercise till 45! Be happy with your rare good luck and genes, then do what the rest of us do--starve and exercise it off or learn to live with it and buy new clothes. |
I actually regret I only started exercising in my 30s. Cant imagine my life without it now. And no, you do not need to starve to be in shape. |
Me too! I was the exact same a few months ago. Just a few years younger. I’ve always been extremely active and fit. I enjoy rigorous exercise but the pounds slowly crept up over the years. The only thing that moved the scale and got back below 125 was eliminating sugar and alcohol. A few glasses of wine and a couple bowls of ice a week can really add up I guess. |
