FCPS sand FEA in the news again!

The first thing I noticed were the parents standing right next to each other without masks. No wonder teachers are scared to go back. |
Umm.. the FEA President got COVID from a social gathering. hypocrite. |
FEA president about tripped over her feet backtracking. Guess she didn’t like the heat after saying teachers shouldn’t have to go back until KIDS are vaccinated. Her new mission will be to make sure school is only 2 days a week in the fall. |
They were outside and a few feet apart. Stay home and in DL. That will be an option if it is not for you. |
The first thing I noticed was that the first reply was an 'attack the messenger' stay-home-defense post. |
Good, the narrative is finally switching in full force. |
If teachers in her association have a lick of sense, they will muzzle her ASAP. |
I've been wearing a mask since Jan 22, 2020. First in select situations like the metro and if I saw what could be a specific group. FCPS was passing out grab and go meals by mask free staff in April at site while at another staff was masked. WaPo photos - compare Hutchison and Forest Edge. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/educatio...73469f094_story.html There is so much covid hypocrisy. Any FCPS staff member with 2 vaccines should be teaching in person 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccine. Subjects? Middle and high school teachers are capable and have the content knowledge base to teach elementary. a 3rd grade teacher for example could not teach physics. An AP physics teacher could teach 3rd grade. NBC should have also run some footage from high school basketball in Virginia public schools. Why don't you just try to stay in your own lane and not tell teachers what grades they can and cannot teach? Some elementary school teachers actually do have secondary endorsements, including myself. And I know a few high school teachers that would quit in a second before teaching third grade. Just because someone has upper level experience, does not mean that they are capable of teaching lower levels. |
+1 I teach secondary school, but hold multiple endorsements, including K-12 special education and 6-12 in my subject area. However, I do not have the knowledge to teach lower-level elementary. It isn't the academics that are a concern to me; it is the fact that I do not have experience with that developmental level, and thus would not be effective. Education requires far more than content knowledge. That’s why being a brilliant mathematician does make one a brilliant teacher, or being fluent in Spanish doesn't mean you can teach Spanish. Your post implies that high school teachers are more valuable than lower-level teachers, which is both untrue and highly offensive. Take a step back, please. |
Is the lady who got covid from a party the same
lady who jumped ahead of the teacher vaccine line even though she doesn’t even work in schools right now? The same awful gross hypocrite? Or are there two? |
Did she actually get COVID at a party? Is that true? |
I thought it was a good segment. The tide of public sentiment is clearly changing in favor of opening schools. And since the FCPS board and superintendent are guided entirely by public sentiment, that’s good news for kids. |
I thought it was well balanced. The parents they interviewed were reasonable and Adams walked back her ridiculous statement. And showing the kids actually doing the virtual learning was good “picture is worth a thousand words” material—anyone who doesn’t have a kid in virtual school has no idea how sad it is. |
