It looks nothing like the children depicted in those photos.

Your kids are not a representative sample.

You THINK that, but your only sample is the 2000 adults on the openFCPS sample page, most of whom also post here. There are almost 200,000 children in FCPS./

No, I’m going off the demographics of the school system. You think most parents in Fairfax redecorated their dining room with new furniture, decor and art to look like a school classroom? GTFOOH lady.

Umm.. the FEA President got COVID from a social gathering. hypocrite.

I've been wearing a mask since Jan 22, 2020. First in select situations like the metro and if I saw what could be a specific group. FCPS was passing out grab and go meals by mask free staff in April at site while at another staff was masked. WaPo photos - compare Hutchison and Forest Edge. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/school-meals-spring-break/2020/04/06/c8ecf3a4-7825-11ea-a130-df573469f094_story.html

There is so much covid hypocrisy. Any FCPS staff member with 2 vaccines should be teaching in person 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccine. Subjects? Middle and high school teachers are capable and have the content knowledge base to teach elementary. a 3rd grade teacher for example could not teach physics. An AP physics teacher could teach 3rd grade.

NBC should have also run some footage from high school basketball in Virginia public schools. Here's South Lakes in Reston VA https://twitter.com/SLSeahawksBball?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Is that how licenses work in VA? I was told my 7-12 license would not allow me to teach 6th grade let alone lower ES?

No that's not how they work. I think you understand how they work. 😄

VDOE has scads of info on licenses, Praxis, endorsements. If any teacher has the academic credentials to teach higher level courses there is no reason they can't teach lower level. So yes the calc or geometry or bio teacher can easily morph into grade k-6 general ed. AP English could be teaching 1st grade but not the reverse. https://www.doe.virginia.gov/teaching/licensure/

Hello? Who's going to teach the high schoolers if the HS teachers are teaching elementary? Think before spouting nonsense.

I usually come here to just read the crazy and don’t post, but this is just a load of misinformed garbage. Teachers are endorsed in specific areas. Yes, there are some high school teachers with prek-6 endorsements, but not a large number. There is a likely a reason why they gravitate towards high school. There are some older middle school teachers who have k-8 endorsement, but those are rare these days. Most secondary teachers graduating from teaching programs now have much more narrow certifications (i.e. science grades 6-8 or History/Social Science 7-12).

Am I supposed to feel bad for the poor vaccinated teachers?

You've lost the plot.

You will when they die or your asymptomatic kid brings it home to your family and someone dies.

Put your energy in making sure schools have N94 masks, ventilation, testing, etc.

When teachers die, after being vaccinated?

learn how to read asshole. MY own asymptomatic child brought Covid home from private kindergarten and my husband and I were very sick. We are very lucky we don't live in a multigenerational household like many FCPS children and there were no higher risk adults in our home.

Oh, wait. YOU selected IN PERSON school for your own child, got sick and now want to choose that everyone else stay home? Did you pull your child out of school for the rest of the year? You don't think people who can't afford private school should be able to send their kids to school? Is education now a luxury good?

+1. Seriously. Talk about myopic and entitled.

The photos they showed were very representative of what normal FCPS kids look like doing DL.

Yeah, this private K lady is pretty much the epitome of selfishness....

And what are we or the audience to take from that? Look, DL-for-all is coming to and end sooner than later. Feel free to enjoy your comfortable DL setup. I'm sure you're hopeful it doesn't get too compromised by the impending concurrent intrusion.

Yeah, PP kind of went off the rails a bit in making their point. Lucky them to have had private kindergarten this year.

What a tone deaf post. Some kids are "thriving", and we must make policy that caters to them.

I think everyone should have the same choice you did - and not just those who can pay for it. I don't want to take virtual away from anyone - and I am happy for anyone who lives in a multigenerational family to select that option, rather than keep everyone from having an in person option.

Yes, if a household can't afford private and/or can't find an opening, they should be able to attend public...just like PP above.

Jeez private K mom read the room.

The photos of the kids doing DL ALONE were spot on. That’s the point: kids are at home, alone, on a computer. It doesn’t matter if they are sitting in their bed or at a desk or in a nicely decorated room. Even if a parent is nearby to help, these kids are alone in learning. They are missing out. They are missing out on friendships, relationships with teachers, and normal life.
