FCPS on NBC Nightly News

+1
We’ve had enough.
Although her proposal about two days a week in fall - no! Five days. No less.

She looked silly suggesting two days of school in the fall.

She, and by extension FEA, looks silly, period. Glad to see more and more FCPS teachers disavowing them.

The first thing I noticed were the parents standing right next to each other without masks. No wonder teachers are scared to go back.

They were outside and a few feet apart. Stay home and in DL. That will be an option if it is not for you.

"A few feet" is not good enough and "outside" is not a magical COVID- free fairyland like low information people pretend it is. Masks and real distancing in groups are still required.

But SHOCKER the the selfish, entitled parents didn't take it seriously.

Umm.. the FEA President got COVID from a social gathering. hypocrite.

I've been wearing a mask since Jan 22, 2020. First in select situations like the metro and if I saw what could be a specific group. FCPS was passing out grab and go meals by mask free staff in April at site while at another staff was masked. WaPo photos - compare Hutchison and Forest Edge. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/school-meals-spring-break/2020/04/06/c8ecf3a4-7825-11ea-a130-df573469f094_story.html

There is so much covid hypocrisy. Any FCPS staff member with 2 vaccines should be teaching in person 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccine. Subjects? Middle and high school teachers are capable and have the content knowledge base to teach elementary. a 3rd grade teacher for example could not teach physics. An AP physics teacher could teach 3rd grade.

NBC should have also run some footage from high school basketball in Virginia public schools. Here's South Lakes in Reston VA https://twitter.com/SLSeahawksBball?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Is that how licenses work in VA? I was told my 7-12 license would not allow me to teach 6th grade let alone lower ES?

FEA lady looked ridiculous with her crazy demands. Glad the needle is starting to move toward reopening because the endless distance “learning” is horrible on kids and families.
Anonymous
This clip cheered me up little. But then I was reminded how absolutely insane it is that k-2 STILL won’t return for 6 weeks. Particularly when you consider they can cohort, they will be distanced, teachers are getting vaccinated, and they will be masked.

Indoor HS basketball is a go but my 6 year old hasn’t seen a classroom for a year.

No that's not how they work. I think you understand how they work. 😄

At least other cultures have a higher respect of teachers and think about the bigger picture of WE and not ME.

Majority of title 1 students have chosen virtual.

I taught at the worst of the worst schools in DC - I was so bad it closed. I think you need to offer in person for any kid who wants it, especially at the highest need schools. Then offer virtual for those who don’t want in person. That is what a real expert would tell you. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know about those schools or child development.

^^ lol I meant it was so bad it closed. I don’t think it was my fault

I’m glad someone other than Fox News finally started to cover the story.

Ok, thanks! That is what I thought, but I keep seeing this claim repeated on DCUM. I work in another state.
