FCPS on NBC Nightly News

CDC recommends testing for asymptomatics, Fcps has done away with temperature checks and is not testing. CDC also recommends limiting sports, well you see how that is going now with multiple outbreaks. Fcps has screwed up over and over again. Once we are back, they will continue to disappoint. Teachers are angry, parents are angry.

Majority of title 1 students have chosen virtual.

Ok, great. Good for them. That doesn’t affect me. They can stay virtual forever for all I care. I want in person and I’m advocating for me and people like me who also want in person ASAP.

Once teachers have their second dose, kids should be back 5 days. ASAP with masks.

The first thing I noticed were the parents standing right next to each other without masks. No wonder teachers are scared to go back.

They were outside and a few feet apart. Stay home and in DL. That will be an option if it is not for you.

"A few feet" is not good enough and "outside" is not a magical COVID- free fairyland like low information people pretend it is. Masks and real distancing in groups are still required.

But SHOCKER the the selfish, entitled parents didn't take it seriously.

Okay...thanks, doc.

Teachers are driving in the snow to get their vaccine without an appointment because they also know that Fcps won’t keep everyone safe.

Agree. The parents look selfish and entitled. At least wear a mask and distance.

If you can’t model that how should your kids take things seriously.

You all are modeling letting the perfect be the enemy of the good & I also think that’s why we are in virtual school a year later.

Umm.. the FEA President got COVID from a social gathering. hypocrite.

I've been wearing a mask since Jan 22, 2020. First in select situations like the metro and if I saw what could be a specific group. FCPS was passing out grab and go meals by mask free staff in April at site while at another staff was masked. WaPo photos - compare Hutchison and Forest Edge. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/educatio...73469f094_story.html

There is so much covid hypocrisy. Any FCPS staff member with 2 vaccines should be teaching in person 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccine. Subjects? Middle and high school teachers are capable and have the content knowledge base to teach elementary. a 3rd grade teacher for example could not teach physics. An AP physics teacher could teach 3rd grade.

NBC should have also run some footage from high school basketball in Virginia public schools. Here's South Lakes in Reston VA https://twitter.com/SLSeahawksBball?ref_src=t...serp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Is that how licenses work in VA? I was told my 7-12 license would not allow me to teach 6th grade let alone lower ES?

No that's not how they work. I think you understand how they work. 😄

VDOE has scads of info on licenses, Praxis, endorsements. If any teacher has the academic credentials to teach higher level courses there is no reason they can't teach lower level. So yes the calc or geometry or bio teacher can easily morph into grade k-6 general ed. AP English could be teaching 1st grade but not the reverse. https://www.doe.virginia.gov/teaching/licensure/

The same parents are going to complain once they are back and they realize what a disruption with constant cases and quarantining. Concurrent is also a joke!

I’m over in MCPS, but when she slipped and said the schools aren’t “perfectly safe” right now, that was huge. “Perfectly safe” is a ludicrous goal, and I hope she suffers for thinking otherwise. I’m so fed up with teachers’ unions asserting their member shouldn’t have to take on *any* risk from COVID, while countless others have been this entire time.

Solidarity from across the river!

Am I supposed to feel bad for the poor vaccinated teachers?

You've lost the plot.

Nothing can be worse than a year of no school.

I mean if you consider taking a year or 18 months of taking additional classes morphing into lower education... I guess.

Agree. And this thinking is all over the RTS plans. There's no reason why kids can't go on playground equipment, for instance. Surface transmission isn't a thing and EVEN IF IT WAS which it's not, they are outdoors. There are tons of ridiculous rules like this.
