I’ve been a fed more than 10 years so this isn’t my first shutdown, and financially we’re probably in a better position this time around. But the uncertainty, and the fact that this BS is happening again, is really getting to me. Anyone else feeling this way?

I think because there is the additional uncertainty around WTF will the Republican crazies do next to burn it all down. These aren’t normal times.

Yeah exactly this.

It doesn't seem like the far right has anything in particular they want (other than an unachievable wholesale stripping of the federal bureaucracy). I just don't know how you persuade them to come on board. And Trump is shouting DEFUND THE PROSECUTORS left and right seems to just make this thing worse. And McCarthy isn't going to sacrifice his speakership over this.

Anyways, I think there's an 80% chance we get a sustained shutdown like 2019, where it goes on for weeks until something truly breaks.

Air traffic controller sick out, grounding commercial flights

McCarthy says he thinks he can negotiate a CR with his caucus, and the Senate says they will start working on one as well. Seems like this is overblown and the government likely won't shut down.

Are there enough republicans who will vote for a bill that includes Ukraine funding?

The issue isn’t whether either side can negotiate a CR, it’s whether both chambers can *agree* on a single CR. And even if they do, we’ll be back here again when that runs out in 30 days or whatever. I’d prefer to get it over with because I’m tired of being on tenterhooks (especially after the pandemic and its increased workload, Trump and his minions crapping all over Feds, etc.).

there's no way to know how long the shutdown would last - so your wife would need to be able to get back quickly if they passed something (assuming you are not just a troll trying to stir the pot).

Yes Miami is lovely this time of year, hurricane season, teapot temp jellyfish filled ocean water, oppressive humidity and lingering summer heat.

#notatrolliswear

lol at jellyfish filled water 🙄

I’m assuming you aren’t from Florida. End of summer Atlantic is like a hot tub, and brings on the Jellyfish.

No same person would vacation there this month.

I live in Miami. Was at the beach this weekend.

Looking at the cuts Republicans want for a cr, and who and what those cuts would impact, I'd rather shut down the government and hurt feds and contractors (am a Fed, losing paychecks will hurt)

He says he is optimistic that this will all be smoothed out by Friday unless the Democrats insert something unexpected into the CR. So I assume there must be some sort of solution in the works.

Something unexpected? Like a functioning budget?
