I hear you. It just causes unnecessary stress....

Fellow Feds you need some perspective.

I’ve had tons for family and friends who were laid off recently, some still looking for work months later.

We will be paid. It’s law, even for non exempt. Some bills will be delayed; if things go off the rail, you get hardship withdrawal from TSP, but in general we have good job security and never have to go through the layoff grinder (which is awful for those let go and those remaining).

Now if they start pushing out RIFs, feel free to panic.

In my community, it was exactly the opposite. Anyone working for the Federal government was eligible.

+1 during the last shut down the feds in my school community were treated to multiple breakfasts, thousands of dollars worth of gift cards, clothing, gas, free groceries and more. The contractors and non-feds who were also out of work got nothing. The feds ended up getting repaid but the others did not. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and I spoke up about it when it was happening, but my suggestions fell on deaf ears that it should only be feds. So as an outsider, I think I have compassion for feds, especially lower paid employees, but maintain perspective because other people won’t be getting a paycheck at the end of the day.

there's no way to know how long the shutdown would last - so your wife would need to be able to get back quickly if they passed something (assuming you are not just a troll trying to stir the pot).

Yes Miami is lovely this time of year, hurricane season, teapot temp jellyfish filled ocean water, oppressive humidity and lingering summer heat.

The last several Fed government shutdowns, life was normal for government workers that live in the McLean/Langley area from what I could tell.

Honestly, no. I’d love a week or so shutdown to spend some time with my parents. Get some things in order, and just relax for a few days.

There was an earlier quote that all 100 senators have to agree? Is that BS or legit? They referenced a Reuters article but I don't pay for propaganda.

Reuters is propoganda?

Right! That’s a first. Reuters is a news service. Pure news! Not propaganda at all. Insanity.

No, we weren't fine. Yes, my brother thought we were dummies for being stressed and broke because of the 35 day shutdown. Well, we weren't.

That’s all it took to motivate Rs to do something. Don’t want any feds having “time off”.

I think because there is the additional uncertainty around WTF will the Republican crazies do next to burn it all down. These aren’t normal times.

Oh really? And it will move forward in the House?

Doesn't their CR contain Ukraine funding? That won't fly with these crazies. They also won't agree to anything that doesn't contain cuts. They've dug their heels in. There's no way they're backing down now.

I’m assuming you aren’t from Florida. End of summer Atlantic is like a hot tub, and brings on the Jellyfish.

No same person would vacation there this month.

From Trump to Jan. 6 to this, it just feels like the government is slowly falling apart.

The more I read about what they want to cut, the more I’m ok with the government shutting down. Under no circumstances should the GOP get the cuts they’re asking for!

Not too slowly as far as I can tell

It’s pathetic and embarrassing.
