Funny you should say that. A congressman from KY, John Yarmuth, suggested on Twitter that there should be a ban of teenagers wearing MAGA hats.
He later said he was joking. It was difficult to find anything humorous in his tweet.

Yet crickets from the Media.

Are you really that clueless or did you not actually see his tweet? He was mimicking Trump's statement about the Muslim ban -- I am calling for a total and complete shutdown...

These days it is so difficult to tell whether the MAGA crowd in intentionally ignorant or just ignorant.

I am NOT a Covington mom. I am as anti MAGA and anti Trump as they come.

But this situation was not reported correctly.

So the video of the boy smirking, the kids surrounding the old man and mocking his chants were not reported correctly?

I mean, I read none of the media stories, so I am very confused.

An excerpted video was presented showing only that moment of the story, without the context that told a completely different story. The news reports also did not make clear what had happened.

The original Washington Post article I read said:

In an interview Saturday, Phillips, 64, said he felt threatened by the teens and that they swarmed around him as he and other activists were wrapping up the march and preparing to leave.

Phillips, who was singing the American Indian Movement song that serves as a ceremony to send the spirits home, said he noticed tensions beginning to escalate when the teens and other apparent participants from the nearby March for Life rally began taunting the dispersing indigenous crowd.

I had sympathy for Mr. Phillips after reading this. Teens "swarmed around him" as he was preparing to leave the march. Teens were disparaging the other native americans.

BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED AT ALL.

He walked RIGHT INTO the boys. The boys were in an argument with some men who were taunting THEM and had been for some time.

Phillips told another story years ago about about happening on a frat party that was mocking native Americans. He said he confronted the frat boys, only to be abused, etc. When the police came, there was absolutely no evidence of a party.

Yarmuth's tweet "The conduct we saw in this video is beyond appalling, but it didn’t happen in a vacuum. This is a direct result of the racist hatred displayed daily by the President of the United States who, sadly, some mistake for a role model. [2/2]"

Give me one example of a racist comment by our President

The Catholic Church needs to rethink the idea of using teenagers to advance a political position.

In fact, they might rethink all of their political activism. Other churches should do the same. It's fine to have moral positions, but this kind of activism is not in the interest of the either the church or the government. Maybe they are starting to get it.

Area poster here. Yes, this is why I refuse to send my kid to Catholic HS, especially around here. They already had my grade schooler praying the rosary for life at school last week - totally not cool IMO since he is very young amnd rightfully has no opinions - informed or otherwise - on reproductive issues. Nor does the school teach a consistent life ethic curriculum. I have to do that at home and will be keeping my kid home from now on when they do these kind of politically minded stunts during school hours.

So you send your kid to Catholic school and are surprised the schools are pro life?

Of course not. I am not stupid, thank you very much. But I object to have 5yo pray the rosary over abortion. Teaching the theology does not equal political indoctrination of kids at this age. We deal with it at home, where it belongs.

What's preached at school is practiced at home. If you send your child to a Catholic school, expect your child to be "groomed." It's not political indoctrination in their eyes; it's a belief that life begins in the womb.

That's what public schools are for - the masses.

-former Catholic with a Catholic school education - While I may not agree with the church, it's a person's right to pay for a Catholic education and it's a school's right to also preach and put into practice the doctrine.

So disgusting that a RELIGION is grooming and exploiting kids for political purposes.

That tweet says nothing about a ban on MAGA hats. You are attempting to change the subject.

Edit to add: While you are trying to change the subject rather than address the fact that Yarmouth was clearly mocking Trump, a recent example of Trump's racist hatred was his joking about Wounded Knee -- behavior that is directly relevant to the lack of respect paid to these Native Americans:

Wrong. This thread is beautiful.

It provides a process for people who rushed to an anti-Catholic, anti-white, anti-conservative judgment,
to come to terms with their own inclinations and work through their own tendency to pre-judge
based on whether a person is whites, black or native American; and liberal or conservative.

This level of introspection and being forced to review why you pre-judged something is hard; this is why people who
made bigoted statements wish that the thread was locked, that their own memories be locked, and this troublesome introspection about internal prejudice and bigotry was washed away.

Thank you Nietzsche (paraphrased)

That tweet does specifically say ban MAGA hats, however the stretch to it is on the minds of all on the left.

Edit to add: While you attempt to show a racist comment to Senator Warren with the article, politics are fair game especially when someone uses it to get tenure at Harvard.

There's always a way to justify the MAGA racism, while assigning all sorts of imaginary malicious intentions to the left.

Your post is so incredibly ironic.

My grandfather - an Irish Catholic Cop was discriminated back in the early 20th Century. He could only get a job in this industry (law enforcement) due to blatant discriminatory practices of the ruling class. Do I wear that like a chip on my shoulder like the Native American Elder and the Black Israelite's did on Friday... NO!
