Fed on Friday 2/12: open or closed?

Anonymous
We can pretty much already bank on it being unscheduled leave for tomorrow. What are the chances of a closing? Metro bus service has stepped up to 47 bus routes running as of 1 PM Thursday. No word yet for above ground lines for Metrorail. Similarly no word yet either for MARC train, VRE, Ride-On in Montgomery, or Catch-A-Ride in PG county. Road conditions in individual neighborhoods are still questionable, and also disappearing lanes remain quite frequent as well. Hopefully it will remain closed, especially once temps go back to freezing overnight, and solidify things once again.

open with liberal leave.

Open if metro above ground is back up and running. Closed if metro not operating at full service.

I have a sinking feeling it will be open with unscheduled leave as you predicted. Although I would love for it to be closed, through the weekend, and have an extended weekend with the Holiday, I feel that OPM is likely feeling pressure from the public to open. Don't be jealous people that have had to work this week! Haters!

If Feds are open tomorrow...traffic is going to be absolutely insane! I guarantee it.

Traffic will be bad - not insane. Too many people have kids who are off with schools closed so there will be a significant # of people who will need to take liberal leave.

True, this is certainly to be taken into account. But by Friday, you'll also be dealing with more people who are going to want to venture out, from "being sick of in the house". As well as quite an influx of additional travel on the road. Feds make up 270,000+ in DC-MD-VA region. A large number will likely take liberal leave, a large number also take public transportation. Logistically it's going to be very interesting to see how it plays out. Will there be parking? Are all lanes going to be open on roads? What about accidents that will likely occur with the extra cars on the road? I don't think anyone has a crystal ball as to what will happen, but there is the potential for it to be bad, very bad. Hopefully not though.

I vote open, with unscheduled leave policy and crazy traffic (including me).

Please don't start up the stress with talk about traffic. This week has been pretty glorious thus far, and stress free, minus the snow-shoveling.
