20:05 - if you aren't a fed, why so obsessed with what the feds are doing?

Maybe she's the same lady that looks out the window at her neighbors shoveling snow and then writes posts on DCUM complaining about what they are doing. Always concerned with what other people are doing. Boring, boring lives.

Um, no not me. And certainly not obsessed. I'm just making the point that there is no reason people should not be able to get back to work tomorrow. Just because the streets are not "perfect" is no excuse to close the government again. For those of you who still think the conditions are bad out there, where do you live? Because I was out and about today, and it was business as usual. All stores were open, I went to the grocery store, the post office, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, out to dinner with the family. There were tons of people out, and I saw nothing but bare pavement for the most part. [/quote

glad u had such aeisurel fucking day.. I was in the hose workin for the Feds, bitch

No, my office was open all week, so I've had to work from home every day with two kids under 4. I work for a government contractor, but we never close, even when the feds close. We also only get 6 holidays off a year. So once again on Monday, I'll need to try to work from home because my office is open but my kids' school is closed for the holiday.

I agree. This is the biggest decision of John Berry's life. on the one hand $100 million in cost, on the other, his hands could be soaked in the blood of bureaucrats.

Seems he got lucky with only 3 minor injuries on Red Line derailment.

Whoever thought traffic was not going to be horrible today needs to eat crow...absolutely a disaster today....the fact that turn lanes are half full of snow is causing major major backups...insane!

Don't forget the metro derailment.

Derailment could've been worse, but I agree, traffic is not good at all. 2 Hr+ long commute home that normally takes 35 minutes, and my agency provided 59 minutes of early dismissal to deal with it.

walking conditions were awful too, btw. i had to walk about 1.5 miles because no buses showed up at my stop after a 30 min wait. it was pretty treacherous. all around commuting nightmare it seems today.

These things happen when you have bad weather. No one ever promised people a perfect commute, all year long.

I totally agree with the above....overall this day was a big failure in terms of commuting as a whole.

Probably should've been closed to avoid this big mess, but would've drawn too much scrutiny. Either decision to open or close would've drawn much criticism either way. It's a lose-lose situation.

I was actually amazed at how clear it was downtown. The roads and sidewalks were practically dry. The mountains of snow I had to scale in order to get from the sidewalk to the street weren't much fun, but I can see how OPM made their decision...

16:52 is downplaying things. In MoCo, we were suggested to park in the parking garages and not on the streets to alleviate cleanup crews....took me an hour exactly just to exit the parking garage....lololololol Then what was 4 lanes is now down to 2. The furthest most left lane, which is generally a turn lane was half full of snow, as was the furthest most right lane half full of snow for those wanting to turn right. 4 lanes down to 2, with people trying to turn left and right from those 2 lanes! I think I cycled through a single traffic light at least double digits on US29. Shoot me now.

Experienced similar conditions today. Was not fun to say the least. Going to sleep this one off folks.
