Fed on Friday 2/12: open or closed?

Anonymous
yes, and hopefully let cleanup crews do their job unhampered, and close for friday. Let's just all start fresh Tuesday.

I agree that the people should stay off the roads to let the crews get all the lanes back up and running, parking accessible, etc. so that everything can quickly get back to normal.

ehh...just close it. Opening up the Feds for one day will wreak mass havoc on the roads tomorrow, with not all lanes open, and lanes disappearing. Sounds like fun!

Roads in parts of Dupont and Logan are still caked in inches of compacted snow. We saw no fewer than 5 cars with wheels spinning on our walk back home from Rock Creek Park. 19th was impassible. Corcoran and R also. 16th street seemed pretty clear, though slushy at the edges. I can't imagine all the traffic from the other streets funneled onto the main ones, though.

Agree, this compacted snow / ice is no fun. Please remember not to rev your wheels up if you're stuck. Go slow...if you hit traction rev'ed up, you will go skidding along, hopefully not into another car parked onto the side of the road...i've seen this happen before

T-minus 1 hour to the likely decision time

This is a bigger decision than some people think. Just to say oh yeah, open it, or hey, keep it closed is not a simple decision.

You don't have to accrue it to take it... you can go in the hole because you will certainly make it up quickly.

Anticipation is killing me...really would like to know either way so I can mentally prepare myself for a potential white knuckle drive into work, or relax into the weekend.

I agree. This is the biggest decision of John Berry's life. on the one hand $100 million in cost, on the other, his hands could be soaked in the blood of bureaucrats.

Doesn't really matter for his career as long as he has the right friends in the right places all will be ok.

The $100 million cost that's been thrown around quite a bit in the media, especially by WaPo, was pretty much thrown out the window this morning in a chat with John Berry on the WaPo online.

He claims its a 20 yr old number, and discounts essential employees who've reported in or are teleworking, and also doesn't include those non-essential employees like us who've been teleworking as well.

i think it should be closed. sure, progress has been made. but not enough. plain and simple.

An additional day of cleanup during friday, into the extended holiday weekend will do wonders for those having to drive to work. Just close it and make life easier please. thank you.

Is anyone else hopelessly on the OPM website hitting F5 refresh on the status page hoping for a closure...or am I the only one?
