Affirmative Action should be income-based, not race-based

We napalmed their country, bombed them back to the middle ages, killed dozens of thousands, many came with absolutely nothing -- no money no education no jobs no English..

And now, just 40 years later, on average they are doing pretty well, thank you.

Immigrants are self-selected group of motivated individuals. They weren't dragged here in chains and had every aspect of their culture destroyed (name/language/history/family units). Many descendants of slaves don't even know their ancestors' countries of origin.

People have done many shitty things to other people over time. This isn't a contest.

Not sure why people don't want to accept what was done to the enslaved people brought here from Africa and the long-lasting effects of that brutality.

I see. Excuse after excuse after excuse.

Slavery in this country ended 150 years ago. Plenty of time to create a new culture, a lot of new bonds, a can-do attitude, a strong community.

But you're waiting for some White Saviors to do it for you...except you enjoy insulting and attacking any non-black person who dares to help in non-whiny ways.

I hope you do learn a thing or two from immigrants.

Why are you assuming I'm black?

Plenty of time and yet, government sanctioned housing discrimination just ended in the 1970s with its impact continuing. No one is waiting for a white savior, just stating the facts.

The saddest part of this commentary is that white women benefit more from AA than anyone.

How does one just create a new culture. So ignorant and uneducated.

Exactly. The intentional ignorance is disgusting.

Push a man down. Keep your boot on his neck. Never offer a hand to get up. Then complain that it's taking too long for him to get up.

I didn't realize White Saviors were so arrogant to speak as someone else's appointed representatives.

I'm not. White Savior is a metaphor.

What has happened in those 150 years? Where was that boot? Where was that hand?

Why do you always have to bring race into things?

50-70 years ago the marriage rate in the black community was high, people owned businesses and did reasonably well, most kids did their best at school and aimed at a college degree, giants like Louis Armstrong rose to fame... what happened?..

This

LBJ's "Great Society," which made the government the "economic husband" for black women who had children without being married. The out-of-wedlock rate is more than 70%! That is horrible, and there's no way for black people, overall, to advance until they acknowledge that their own behavior and choices is contributing to their problems.

Wedlock status?
Are from the 1950's?
Can we talk about inequality of opportunities, centuries of oppression and brutal slavery

This may be true, but the numbers for black people, while sad, are stable and not increasing. The numbers for white women are exploding.

Please explain how brutal slavery failed to decimate the black family of 100 years ago and yet caused the epic destruction of the past 50 years.
