| I have to ask a dumb question here as we’re not ECNL. Is a typical ECNL team filled with 10-13 very talented players or just less than half are talented? |
With dilution being what it is just less than half. |
Even with DA it’s usually just 2-4 girls who are the difference makers. Everyone else will be good but for ECNL and DA level are just average. |
| To be honest though, it’s relative, the average 5-12th ECNL/DA player is probably better than the average 2-10th non-ECNL/DA player in our area. The weak ECNL/DA players look pretty good against their Non-ECNL/DA counterparts which is why they end up in ECNL/DA. Even though Dilution is real, its not a bad thing as a super team in such a dense area might be leaving some potential on the bench that needs PT opportunity. |
As PP's have said, the bottom of an ECNL roster is at the top of most levels below. Typically these players advance more quickly due to the speed of play, so the longer they play in ECNL the gap widens. The difference between a competitive ECNL team and a less competitive one is typically not the top 2, it's the depth below 8. It's the same way in the DA. |
I think it also depends on the age if the girls. U13-u14 they are still sorting out players. After the top 2-4 some of the girls are not better vs non ECNL/DA players. U15 and up a lot of self sorting starts to happen. |
+1. Outside of far outliers (truly mediocre players at the bottom of an ECNL/DA roster), this is a true statement. |
| Arlington ASIST might as well be the State cup at this point |
Yep youth soccer ranking Va teams 1-5, 8 and 9 or 7 of the top 10 in the state and 11 of the top 20. Too bad a few teams like Stoddert, Prince William, FCV, Mclean and BSC fury did not want to make the long drive. Totally understandable Guess teams like Stoddert and FCV would rather compare ranking vs play head to head. Still have time deadline is Feb 7th.
|
Stoddert IS in the tournament for U12 and Mclean is irrelevant since they are no longer a elite team, they cant even win NCSL division. PWSI is the only elite team thats not participating but they havent been so hot either from what I can see on tournament games. |
You know these kids are 11, correct? My youngest is an 08 boy and this thread amazes me. Big picture, folks. This is kiddie soccer still. |
True but also out of context. The shift to full side soccer begins this coming fall for this age group including your son. On top of it, unfortunately ECNL and DA teams form at U13. This may not concern you but this is a pretty stressful tryout season for all involved. U12 rising to U13 is always stressful. The same thing was discussed with the 07 age group last year and you can look forward to 09's discussing the same things next year and on and on. |
I wouldn't categorize kid's soccer as 'stressful'. It's as stressful for your kid as you make it for them. Listening to crazy parents and feeding off the frenzy of others in the Club is not good for the player. Those are the kids that drop the sport sometime in middle school/early hs. |
Call it what you want but this thread will always continue under the name of the rising U13 age group of the particular year. |
And again, why don't we see the same nuttiness on the boys side? |
