+1. And it’s Kevin’s house. Plus, Toby pretty much ignored Kevin’s son, don’t think he’d ignore his bio-offspring like that: |
I think it's just as simple as it appears. Kate and Tobey split, for any number of reasons, and Kate and Jack are on their way to visit Rebecca on her death bed. Also agree Miguel likely had passed away prior.
My guess about Nicky is that Kevin renews his efforts to befriend him, and he eventually moves in with him. Kevin, Nicky, Rebecca, and Kate become a tight knit group living near/with one another in CA. Rebecca and Nicky become close due to their shared love of Jack, and Nicky becomes the surrogate father Kevin needed as they support each other in sobriety. It will be interesting to see who Kevin ends up with. I would love it to be Sophie, though that door seemed to be closed for real this season. Very glad Zoe is out--so gorgeous but they had no chemistry. Relieved Beth and Randall worked it out, but now want to know what happens with Deja and Annie! After a bland depressing season, thought the season finale was a return to form. Really enjoyed it! |
The show ends at season six, we are halfway through but MM said we aren’t even halfway through the story being told. |
Hmm so if Toby is talking about Kate, why would he be invited to Rebeccas’s bedside? That’s Kate’s mother. Buttttttt if Kate passed and Rebecca felt Toby had some type of fault, that could make more sense. |
What's it called - Occam's Razor? The simplest explanation is probably the correct one? This all seems really plausible. |
If they were married for 10 years, or whatever, he may still be close to the family and showed up to support them. Someone (must have been Randall?) said "thanks for coming" to Toby. He and Rebecca are probably close and the family wanted him to be there even though he and Kate are divorced. |
The only part of the episode I didn't like was Deja dragging Randall to the foster house. The guy is crazy tired and never around -- I for one would have been pretty irked by the whole thing. Also the speech was way too mature for a girl her age. |
Agreed. Not a fan of her character at all. |
Huh. I really like Deja - she's gone through so much and has really opened up. I think her wisdom or precociousness is a result of her hardships and what she's seen about fortune and opportunity. |
Yes! As Randall, I would have been really annoyed, even if it was so "like me." She doesn't get to do that. I loved how Beth was talking to a real estate agent and it was about her dance studio--very cool and a good wrap up. I was surprised to see Nicky, but a good surprise. I thought Kevin's son looked white which may eliminate Zoe as the mother--and I hope it does because (1) I never saw chemistry with them and (2) she doesn't want kids and that is a legitimate choice. But it was a little weird how we barely saw him. I'm sad about Toby and Kate breaking up...I thought they were good together. Remember an old episode many years in the future where he is in bed depressed and she is there? I wonder if they are still together at that time. I assumed so, but maybe not. Overall, I liked this episode a lot! |

In my opinion, she is maturing way too quickly especially in relation to the other girls who did not have the traumatic upbringing. One day Deja's smashing windshields because she can't cope with her emotions and a couple of months later she's delivering speeches and analyzes racial dynamics in her school, while the (not so much) younger daughters still require extensive babysitting. |
Sorry messed up the spacing above: The "future" scene with Toby severely depressed in bed was already shown, when he stopped taking his meds because he was afraid it was affecting his sperm counts. Whether he and Kate divorced or Kate had a health crisis and passed away, I think it's clear Rebecca is fond of him--he adored her daughter and is her grandson's father--makes sense to me that she would want to see him to say her goodbyes. |
I don't disagree, but we did see glimpses of her wisdom and precocity all along. She effectively was her mother's caretaker, the only responsible one for years. The writers for sure "sped up" her healing, but I think Lyric Ross is wonderful in portraying this very bright child mature beyond her years. And I LOL'd at her "Randalling" Randall. |
Nicky is probably the same age as Rebecca right if, as a pp mentioned that Jack was about 6 years older than Rebecca? In that last scene as an elderly woman she looked like she was about 20 years older than him. |
