"do you have to pay for an amber search"
"how to take money from a register without being caught"
"Birmingham bus station"
"one way bus ticket from bham to nashville"
"movie taken" - a film about abduction
"maximum age of an amber alert"

I don’t get the Amber alert searches. Was she concerned that one would be issued for her or that she would need to pay for one for the child?

She wanted an Amber Alert to be put with her "disappearance. It was all about getting attention.

I think the age question suggests she was concerned she’d be charged for her own amber alert, until she realized one wouldn’t be issued for a 25 yo.

I understand I’m from not the south and it’s generally a whole other universe to me, but I don’t believe they could’ve handled this clear fabrication any better. Especially as family and friends still continue to lie to media and the public. It would’ve been so much easier to make a statement thanking LE and everyone who came out and supported them and now that Carlee is home, the family is going to take some time and require privacy to do so. It would’ve even been reasonable to say school pressure is tough and sometimes people need a break etc etc. But between the fighting physically yet somehow having the foresight to grab her Target snacks, this girl is a real nutcase.

Are you such a snob that you expect Hoover/Alabama LE to be stupid? Check yourself.

It’s a fair assumption that many smaller PDs, and some larger ones, will be pretty incompetent in many things. The police botching an investigation is something you hear about rather frequently.

Hoover is like Fairfax.

Have you ever dealt with the Fairfax county police? This pretty much proves the point.

She took a robe and toilet paper from work. Picked up dinner. Picked up snacks from target, including cheeseits. Drove down the road for 6 foot ball fields following this "toddler" while making the 911 call. Called the SIL and screamed and disappeared. Wig, watch, phone left at the scene. Toilet paper, robe, and snacks not found at scene. Claimed she was taken over a fence, into a truck, escaped, back into the truck, into a car, taken to a house. Man and a woman. Not touched, but maybe photographs taken. They fed her cheeseits. They put her back in the truck, she got out, ran through woods and made it home. Her phone records show in the days leading up to it that she searched for things about amber alerts, stealing money, and a movie about an abduction (taken), along with other more personal searches they won't discuss that that indicate her mental state.

Thanks much for this great recap! Procrastinating hard on work and it is so worth it right now

I'm really curious what could have caused it. Was her family or boyfriend controlling or abusive?

The rumor was that she faked an abduction to get back at her ex. The other rumors about cheezits, stealing from work, and the 18 wheeler are true so the motive probably is too.

Really? I don't have one shred of sympathy after they went on the Today show. Did you see the interview where they said they have warned Carlee in the past that traffickers might use babies to lure young women to the side of the road? They had to know.

Not necessarily. I think they inadvertently might have given her the idea. What a nut job!

Anyone else concerned about how your Google searches could be used against you or to analyze your mental state if you were ever in a situation?

Perhaps they didn’t have all of the info from the police at the time. Give them grace. It’s not their fault for what the daughter did. They need a minute to digest what has happened. This is a big deal and seems uncharacteristic for her so yes, they want to believe anything but the truth right now. Considering the embarrassment and shame this so the will cause…denial is normal!

Yeah, that’s probably what her unreleased texts were about. Her poor parents.

They really need to throw the book at her. Otherwise every other loony in the country is going to pull the same stunt.

Southern nice. You never feel the knife stabbing you over and over.

They let her present the facts FOR them and left the commentary for message boards. GENIUS.

Playing the 911 call and stating her whereabouts and searches pretty much said it all.

Guy can take that purple suit to the cleaners now and be done
